Hi eveyone

We have recently bought a selespeed 2.4. and need some advice. I have tried a search but cannot find an answer about this Sat Nav Prob.

The arrow/cursor is sometimes not in the right place on the map. It follows the route of the road but to one side, sometimes we are driving through open space! Has anyone else had this fault? Seems to be on certain roads, not all.

Its a 2002 car with colour Sat Nav (not sure of the model - we dont have the stereo manual). Its on 9.7 firmware. Would the update to 9.8 help, or do I need new mapping? (id rather not pay to find out!)

Also the car is jerky / kangaroos when cold for the few hundred metres. If I use very light throttle its not that bad. Is this normal or am I being to eager?

Grateful for any help. . .

Hi and welcome

I doubt an upgrade to 9.8 would help, but worth a try. Out of interest, what year Sat-Nav CD are you using? The one that originally came with the car? :O

Im not sure when it was last serviced as it was an ex fleet car. The service light hasnt come on and it only Kangaroos it I try to pull off briskly (from startup for the first minute-ish)

The disc is a 2002 disc.

Hi Booda,
The cd sounds like itr is an origianla that was supplied with the car. If you log onto www.navteq.com and register the car and contact their customer service you may well find that the free upgrade cd has not been issued and they will supply a free upgrade (they did to me).
Hope this helps. With regard to it going off road - is it a new estate/area you are in (i.e. are the roads newer than 2001) as these are unlikely to be on the cd?
Steve

Thanks guys. The car is ok after a minute of driving. As for the disc Navteq is expense, i will try registering.

The road where the error occurs have been there for years. I though either the mapping is inaccurate, or the sat nav somehow needs recalibrating or reseting.

I will PM Stuart Demon. Maybe he can help?

I did have exactly the same problem with the Sat Nav on mine and it was completely transformed but a firmware upgrade to 9.8. It is now pretty spot on almost all of the time :)

Mine also doesn't like being cold but I find that if I start it before faffing around with my sunglasses, mp3 player, ciggy by the time I drive off it's warmed up a bit :D

Might be a little late with some advice but...

Just had my sat nav fixed. Cursor arrow gos off track from time to time also. But there seems to be three reasons I have noticed.

1) I have just driven off after starting the car before the nav has picked up any satelites.

2) The nav seems the re-align itself every few seconds rather than be active all the time.

3) Heavy fog or cloud seems to disrupt the signal too and delay the signal.

After these reasons it just re-adjusts to where it should be.

Here in dublin we have some major new motorways/exits since the last navteq disc came out. I was quite impressed though when driving on a brand new motorway (not recognised on 2002 navteq) for 7 miles it joined exactly at the point where navteq last had their disc updated to.

Perhaps also you are only getting a broken signal somewhere in the gps system from ariel to head unit?

Hope this helps.
