Re: Abarth gearbox

I get this fault a lot of the time too.

Has anyone had an actual fault with their gearbox after the sensor go's off or is it always just the sensor itself?

Seems like a very high price for a sensor only! Do you know where it is located? I.e is it inside the gearbox?

Re: Abarth gearbox

They tell me the cost of the sensor is £86 and 7 hours labour to take the box off and fit it.

The only other Abarth owner i've spoken to(WSB's at Silverstone yes i'm a bike man as well)) told me he has the same problem, starting to realise why they went to manual with the latter models.

Re: Abarth gearbox

I had a lot of 'gearbox failure' warnings just before my acutuator gave up, and left me stranded on the entrance to a busy roundabout

Since it has been fixed, I hardly ever get the warning anymore.

Re: Abarth gearbox

The 'speed disc sensor' is in the gearbox - the pickup for the sensor IIRC is on 2nd gear itself.

The sensor gets dirt/swarf etc on it and there is no reading for the ecu to determine how fast the gears are going and therefore goes on strike - very italian.

0 - under warranty

Although my car was offroad for about 3 to 4 weeks, and I ended up having to get a hire car sorted out luckily my work picked up the tab.

Hard to know whether its worth getting fixed outside warranty, only that one day there actually might be a fault with the box which may cost more!

I wonder do the Alfa's have the same problem with the Selespeed models they produce. It's the same unit isn't it? Or is this just a Fiat thing? Hmm

You can imagine what i'm thinking!!,mine started playing up a month ago,it was the first time i'd used to go any further than round the block this year!!!!,i can afford to take it off the road for months if need be,but i've a gut feeling it's regular fault!!! i was warned about how crap they were before i bought it!!!!.

In a word yes - ive not had any experience of the 6speed Selespeed fitted on the 3.2 GTA's, nor would i like to either.

The parts are different - but the operating principle is the same. The Panda/Punto Dualogic system is a lot better due to it being more basic in design with fewer componants - fancy that.

Re: Abarth gearbox

I should have said nothing. Now the gearbox alarm has started going off every time I drive. Used to just go off when I did not push the lever forward/back properly when parking. Now it goes off when I gear up to third or down to second. Yet the box is working fine.
