I finally got that bloody exhuast sorted! Runs quiet as now, and along with a set of bridgestone tyres, the MPG has shot up to!

Cost me £30 in the end to get it sorted, rather that than fiats £120 or kwik fit and budgets £160/£150!

Basically, my cousins husband did it. He cut off the flexi pipe on the existing one and then trimed the fittings of it, welded them onto new part, welded to existing pipe then hey presto, just under an hour, perfect exhaust.

Should pass its MOT now!

Got some pics below, They are all the original part, the first one is it turned eound to show what it should look like, the secon is what it actually looked like, and the third is a failed close up till i can get my hands the digital camera rather than my nokia.

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

Sorry I hadnt noticed your post mate but its good news for you now that its fixed (y)

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

do you reckon that would have failed its MOT with that one on?

Car is a lot quieter now and is getting a lot better mpg, this is the week i find most expensive as i go to work and come home in traffic. Hitting an average of 42.6mpg at moment over about 150 miles. When i worked lates last week and then sat, i was hitting 47mpg as no traffic.

Previously on this week i would get 37-38mpg and on the late week about 41mpg

plus the car isnt giving nasty judders when going slow now, still has little ones but thats because the air filters 3 years old and doesnt get looked at until third year service with fiat (which is happening sat with my first mot!)

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

You havn't showed us a pic of the new flexy but if its gas tight and its doing the job it should pass the dredded MOT as well as the job its there for to (y)

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

Thats true!

I didnt get chance to take pics of it before going on the car, and I had to drop my cousin of at work and bring her 2.5 BMW home :p

I will try to get pics when its not raining so I can get down on the floor!

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

Did the new flexy fit over the original exhaust pipes and was the flexy the same size as the original ?

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

the flexi part is the same size but it is a bit of a frankenstein job from its original state.

The ends of the new one were trimmed back and the fitting parts of the old one were cut off and welded to the new part, and it went straight in.

The fitting parts were cut and then welded onto the new part where fiat welded them.

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

It sounds OK and the original and new welds aligned that couldnt have been better good job (y)

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

Everything looks cushdy underneath and holding quite well!

It'll do till the whole section needs changing. I didnt see the point of changing the whole section for that one bit!

Cheers for the idea of just getting that one bit changed!

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

mines gone and Michael Barrable Motors FIAT Ireland want 154 euro PLUS VAT @21% JUST FOR THE FLEXI PART... Advanced pitstop were kind enough to quote 1 - 2 hundred yoyos to fit it for me if i got the part.

FIAT also said if the CAT was gone, it could cost 8 or 9 hundred euros.

Is the piece fittable by yourself?

What engine has your car got did you read that there are flexys available ?

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

its 1.2 petrol, but unless its a straightforward unbolt and snap into place job, i dont think that i can do it myself.

No didnt know that they were available? Advanced pitstop said it was v difficult to get hold of these fiat components that I would need to go to main dealer, or else I could go to a local garage that would trim it and weld it for me, but thats not advisable as it wont last as long.

Fiat bloke made me think it was bolted and clipped into place and if i bought the genuine piece from them that it wouldnt be too hard to replace.

On a thread somewhere I found a company here in Cardiff that makes the flexys its superspanner Free phone 08000522563 BBs's stilo is also 1.2 and we managed to sort out his problem so dont worry try phoning them at super spanner see if they will post one over to you there are different sizes in length and dia available and theirs I believe push over your original pipe then it has to be welded either end have a word with BBS pm him (y)

Re: Fao PNL (or anyone who thinks their exhaust blows)

If I'm looking to replace the whole middle section, rather than just the flexi secion, is this the part that I need (the middle bit- FT767J?).
Fiat want about £90 for it, but this website isn't entirely clear:
http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/exhausts_details.php?recordID=664

I know a guy who'll fit the whole thing for me for very little, so I thought I'd try to source either the middle section or the whole exhaust myself.
Any help would be appreciated! ;)

That's the fella. But be aware - I have had two of these parts failed due to knackered baffles. Had it replaced on manufacturers warranty each time and now waiting to get it replaced again.

Maybe I'm just unlucky

Cheers, I think I'll discuss it with the fella who's going to fit it and see what he thinks about it. I was tempted to go for the fix above, with just the flexi section, but I think the whole section is safest!
Two of them failing? That's either bad luck or a bad sign! Hmmmmmm:chin:

Just had the flexi diagnosed as the dodgy part in my blowing exhaust???

Anyone know where i can buy it from just the flexi part? mine is a 1.6 Multiwagon?

Cheers

Phil
