(G) Smelly Stilo Any One?

Right

I'm gonna keep this vague as it could open up a big piss-take.

Has anyone had a smelly Stilo? Over the last two weeks the interior of my car has become smellier and smellier. It's rank, I've searched high and low and can't find the source inside or out. It's like a burning, dead,rubbery, gone off fish smell and it's getting worse! And as the car gets hotter it gets smellier!

There isn't an air-freshner on Earth that remotely disguises it.

Ok, go on, take the mickey, I'm expecting a ribbing over this but it's true, the kids don't even want to get in the car any more.

You sure it's not an "eggy" smell? A broken cat' has that beautiful aroma...?

Either that or a changing of socks is in order!?:D

Turn on the air-con to its coldest temperature and leave it for a while (speed 2, face level, recirculating ON). Then blast the ducts with a few minutes of hot air (make sure engine temp is at the normal operating temp, do this with the A/C off but still on Recirc for 5 minutes). Then, put your A/C back on to how it was at first (A/C on, Recirc on, face level, speed 2). Does this make it better?

If so, you've got bacteria in your A/C system (this is very common, BMW offer a free disenfectant spraying of your system to kill bacteria). Get FIAT to do the same.

I get the rotten EGG smell but ONLY when the A/C has not been used for a longer period, usually with a DIRTY air filter. but only for a small period, after that everything goes normal.In one of previous posts i read that this was a normal thing so..

I don't think having a stinking car is normal. If ever I experience this I will be at the dealer straight away.

i had a smell, on my old car and that was the pollen filter that was very dirty and needed replacing.

My boot smells like someone's puked in it. Poppy coral air fresheners are good. They look nice on the dashboard and can be re-filled with lemon or vanila re-fills. Ypu can get them from Halfords or at www.speeding.co.uk.

Nutradol isn't too bad either. Good luck!

That's it, you got it, it seems to be coming from the boot and it smells like someones puked in it and thrown in half a ton of dead fish for good measure.

Believe me no air freshner can kill this smell!

From the boot?

Thats strange. Things you could check are:
1. Lift up your boot carpet and make sure there's no mould growing underneath it (if it is, water's getting in).
2. Take out the inner-pockets on both sides of the boot lining (attached by velcro) and see if there's no mould in there.
3. Get under the car and check to see if both rear vents are not blocked (one each side, under the fuel filler cap area).

I've got my car booked into Reg Vardy in Leicester on the 19th to have a few bits sorted under warranty. Will ask about the smell then. The boot is totally dry and virtually un-used.

I thouroughly cleaned the car today, in and out!

I've found the smell. It's the carpet in the boot. It mings! It's totally dry underneath, no mould, air vents are clear, but the carpet has gone off, it bloody stinks!

Strange but true. I've given it a VAX to see if that'll cure it, have to wait and see.

I had a smelly car recently as well. It turns out water was entering the boot. There was a puddle of water in the wheel well. They had the car for a few days and eventually sealed the leak from the rear bumper.

It took a week or two for the smell to go after that.

I gave it a good Vaxing at the weekend and all seems in order now, so touch wood, the smell has gone!
