Basically im in the middle of fitting my cruise control and have come across a few problems!

I've wired the cruise control up correctly as per the guide! And my pedals dont seem to register with the engine node as off when the cruise control is activated - so it dosen't work atm to cut a story short.

What i need to do is earth a wire from the brake pedal switch and one from the clutch switch, these two wires are Normally closed contact (NC) of the switch's and give the engine node the "pedal released" signal.

Basically ive located the switches and the clutch switch has 2 wires a brown/grey and purple/black - ive tested these for current.. so my guess is here the NC wire is the purple/black which dosent seem to have a current and the other dose.

Then onto the brake switch, this has two blue wires - i know i dont need to touch these as they are (+ve feeds)! Then there is a green wire and a white wire, i can only seem to get a very small current off both of these.

Ive tried to look on the maintaince CD but cant make much sence of it... Basically the normally open contact controls the brake lights, etc.. so i wont the oposite wire from the engine node? and the same for the clutch if anybody can help and make more sence of the diagrams etc...

I know rroppe will be able to help me, but i cant get hold of him at the minute and really wana finish it off today :(

Hey Rob

Sorry it's taken ages for me to come online; I've been trying to get my door trims back on. Unforunately the passenger one snapped across its whole length; there goes £100

Right, first one is easy: clutch pedal. The Black / Purple wire should be earthed - this may be done already, so do a resistance check to the chassis.

Now, the brake pedal switch. Unsuprisingly, eLearn is contradicting itself heavily; but suffice it to say, the section regarding Cruise Control has no information on brake switch wiring, the section on the Engine Node says both Normally Open and Normally Closed contacts have to be wired, and the section on Brake Light Switch (versions with Cruise Control) say that only the "N.A contact is sent on the CAN line, particularly to the Engine Node. The N.A. type recognizes the position of the brake pedal when it differs from the rest position" - i.e. when your foot is on it!!!

As your vehicle has ABS, it says that this will be pre-wired! It might be that the clutch switch is not wired up, hence the Engine Node thinks you've got your foot always on the clutch? Check this one out first then let me know.

Sorry this has turned into a nightmare, mine was just plug 'n' play, it's amazing what a couple of months down the production line can do!!

Erm, i meant continuity; just to see if the purple / black wire on the clutch switch is connected to earth (using a multimeter!) . . .

Not necessarily, depends on what your dad tested it on; Voltage, Current etc . . .

What you need to do is put it either on a continuity test or resistance test: Resistance should be 0 (not infinity) between the wire and a clean earth point. If it is infinity, then earth that bad boy :D

Cluth and brake pedal sensors

I need some help with my cruise control, I have installed the cc to my semi wired 1.8 02 dynamic as per the guide by RICH but it wont work, I have checked the wiring twice and all is as it should be but in the guide there is mention of a wiring mod needed on the clutch and brake sensors  but no instruction on how to do it .

1 has anyone had to do this to make there cc work ?

2 if so please tell me i'm so near to having it working and a picture of what it looks like when it's done

I have PM'D RICH but he hasn't answered yet the guide is great but lacks this info, please put me out of my misery :bang: :bang:

Karl.

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

02 1.8 Dyn should be fully prewired (mine was) as it has asr and esp (these use same sensors on clutch & breaks as cruise). Are you sure you got a compatible switch/leaver?

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

im in the same situation with my JTD. checked everything and as far as i know its all good. im suspecting a dodgy brake switch, so hopefully that will fix it. other that that im baffled too :bang:

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

Definately semi wired 12x no D4B under the fuse box just D4A with 7 wires hanging out of it mate I'm pretty clueless with electrics so I had my mate check as well hopefully rich or one of the other electrical guru's will get back to me and steer me in the right direction :slayer:

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

lets hope so .. but they have been very specific in that guide post grr you could test the wiring from cabin (h7) to battery bay (d4b) and d4b to control node (also test there’s a 12v feed..) all else failing - you can go the non-wired route and wire-up from scratch.. Guide mentions an engine node..(i always thought cruise on stilo was body computer software!?).. Check you have the node and that it is connected..

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

OZ have you changed your brake switch yet mate? if so what happened did it work after ? anyone else with any pointers / solutions please post them
Karl

Re: Cluth and brake pedal sensors

Any chance you can get over to me and let me have a look Oz?
Its a long way

HI, i followed a spanish manual where said i have to connect the brake pedal to the ECU but i didnt check before do it if the ECU already do, so now the ECU is not sending signal to the AC, at the fiat dont know why, i didnt tell them that i made the cc installation. so i have take out this cable that i took from fuse box inside car the big one down on the right, the pin 19. ok so now i have take out the cable and have checked out with MES and WOP! i dont need the cable! the ECU already recognize the clutch and the brake, that one have 2 switches! so cc is working. i recommend to check with MES before connect other stuff than the four cables for the cc + the 12v+. because i think i have damaged the ECU the thing is why only the AC is not working?!?! someone can pass me the relation of pins of the big connectors on ECU. pins 54 and 18 please? i can see ok the Eper and dont know where to find the schematics. thanks!
