best wheel / tyre size combo?

Anybody got any opinions on what wheel & tyre size works best on the 5dr Stilo. Thinking 7x15 - 196/65x15's 35 / 38 offset or 7x16 on regular tyre size & standard offset. (Price of rubber scares me with 17's and missus won't let me take out a mortgage for 18's or 19's off the net) Thinking aftermarket wheel & tyre package in spring or second hand OE coupe alloys / alfa 155 5 spoke black speedlines...

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

I use 17" with 215/45 tires in the summer and 15" with 195/65 tires in the winter.
The 17" are much better than the 15" when it comes to handling, and i haven't noticed any drop in comfort.
Plus they look so much better.

So i would recommend you get some 17" wheels (come on.....you know you want to ).

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

Deffo not 15s.

17s would be nice, and I will upgrade IF I see a nice set on eBay, at the right price with decent rubber.

I run 16s at the moment, as standard.

As for price of rubber, where do you tend to buy your tyres from?

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

Yes, your right, I would indeed like 17's Price of quality rubber a bit scary though Mooching round e-bay realised 17's with tyres can be had between £400 - £500 for a set of 4 whereas alfa speedlines, last set without tyres needing refurb went for £125 + £40 per wheel for refurb + tyres & centre caps P.S. Mine on Dunlops and have driven me dads 1.6 16v 5dr on 15's / P6000's, he traded it for 115JTD MW on 16's (Dunlops I think?) noticed handles sharper with no deterioration of ride quality. Just wondered if 17's would be a more bumpy ride...

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

i thought 17" tyres was cheeper than 16" as the 17s are more common, my toyo proxes were £64 each from www.mytyres.co.uk

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

These would fit with wobbly bolts (bolts with a loose seat)

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

Hmmm... Alloys! They are a real nice set. Dunno if I should wait to see if my tyre wear issues have been sorted post anti roll bar links and 4 wheel align (rear re-tracked) or just go for it. I have time to wait, being as I relieved me dad of his new spare from his 1.6 16V pre P/X, which was identical to my nearly new spare... they are now running as a pair on my stilos rear! (to scared to look if they still have their outer/inner shoulders in tact/not feathered)

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

I only paid £85 per corner for my Bridgestone Potenzas - 17s can be purchased just as cheap - so no idea where you get £125 per corner from

Re: best wheel / tyre size combo?

Sorry, £125 is what the wheels went for on e-blag. They had no tyres on and needed a refurb... (think I have convinced myself that second hand wheels in poor condition are a false economy)
