Stilo Abarth in Yellow question...

Is it a common problem for Stilos that are in Broom Yellow for the paint to discolour over time on the plastic parts of the car, for example the bumpers and the spoiler.

I have looked at a few in Yellow all 02 models that seem to have a slightly darker not as bright yellow shade to the plasic parts.

Replys welcome before I buy one

Cheers

Re: Stilo Abarth in Yellow question...

The colours aren't fading, it's due to FIAT's painting techniques (or so I am told!).

All 3 of our Stilo's have mismatching bumpers (paint shade is darker); this is because the bumpers are made of black plastic, and no doubt the FIAT paint/primer is too thin and allows this to occur (2 garages have told me that).

Also, my rear spoiler on my broom stilo is an awful match; I'm told this is done at Portbury (i.e. the importers in Royal Portbury Docks, Bristol), and that Broom is a hard colour to match; the thickness of paint layers dramatically changes the colours.

May all be bull, but when I questioned my spoiler that's what i was told. And to be honest, it doesn't really bother me!

Re: Stilo Abarth in Yellow question...

The paint shouldn't fade as they are all basecoat & lacquer systems now. Yes the bumpers are usually a different shade as the paint is very thin & the bumpers are sprayed in a different primer. When I sprayed Bo~Select@s car I had to put 5 coats of basecoat on to get a good coverage! There is also about 8 different shades of it. Bozzy there isn't any difference between broom yellow & imola yellow they are both actually called giallo ginestra & are actually the same colour, just 2 different shades.

Interesting but weird. A work colleague parks his Immola yellow Sei next to my car and the difference is considerable. In fact, my rear spolier matches his car better than mine (as per roope's comment). It really does look like some afterthought so I am glad it's not just me.

But how can they be the same colour if they have different shades?

Because they are the same colours in the mix just one is paler than the other. Both are called giallo ginestra as I said. All paints (apart from a few) have more than one shade, I suppose imola yellow is just the newer version of broom yellow!

there is no such colour as imola yellow for a seicento

all seicentos were made in broom yellow

the only imola colour for a cento was imola blue and that was on a cinq

the only explanation i can think of is depending on the age of the sei is that the paint has faded due to exposure to sunlight

Re: Stilo Abarth in Yellow question...

The mind boggles. What is the smallest out of the two. Sei or Cinq? His is the little car and it's an 53 iirc so I'd be peeved if it was down to fading. He calls his Imola?

Neither they are both on the same chassis, maybe the sei is slightly bigger due to it being rounded but it would only be slight dont qoute me on that, i think they are on the same chassis

If its a 53 plate it will be a seicento.

They only made them in broom yellow, there is no imola yellow, only imola blue, and that was on the cinq. j333evo's cinq is an imola cinq.

Unless the cars name is imola but the colour is definately broom yellow

Imola is a place in Italy - dont think you can get Imola yellow anymore on Stilo's, the new colour is reggae yellow.
