Gadgets and Gizmos

With all the gadgets and gizmos in the car (on the Abarth at least) I'm interested to learn from people how many of them you use on a daily basis.

I always use the auto windscreen wipers, the cruise control on motorways and when I've needed it the SatNav has been a god send (especially when you're driving from Manchester to an industrial park in Guildford which I would have never found in a month of Sundays!)

Although I'm impressed with the voice recognition, I do get rather fed up with my many arguments with "Fiffi" (that what I call my in-car computer - sad eh?) when all she says is "Sorry" when you ask her politely to change CD's and you end up pressing the buttons yourself. Mind you, at least "she" has the ability to read a map :)

You have to say that Dawn as a Punto has no gadgets for you to play with anyway, so what exactly do you control, ooh, the "girlie button"!:D

I've got plenty of nobs to fiddle and play around with, oo-err, yes, including my own![^]

I always have the auto wipers and headlights on. The reversing sensors are great too.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the reversing sensors.

It's interesting that over the years that Air Con (and now climate control) has found itself appearing as standard equipment on cars. I suppose that SatNav is still a rather expensive toy, but I've started to see more and more cars with the telltale reversing sensors in their bumpers (BMW's mainly). Even my Proton hire car in Malaysia had them!

savi,

the only real button i need to have in my car is the stereo one.
this is cos i dont need air con and climate control, cos i either open my window, if its too hot, or close the window and put the heater on if its too cold....... guess you dont know how to do that though [:0]
dont need sat nav, cos guess what I CAN READ A MAP [:0]
dont need reversing sensors cos i can do that too [:0] even though im a woman :p
and cos i dont have all these gadgets and gizmos there is less in my car to go wrong, so i'll think of you next time i see a stilo back in the garage cos is gone wrong AGAIN
[:X]
as for playing with your own button .......well........having 4 kids shows i got some-one who can play with mine for me ;)

I use the auto lights, auto wipers and parking sensors the most (who else has stopped looking behind them properly now?). Also use the MP3 player a lot - much better than a CD changer! Don't use the sat nav as I don't really use maps either! Did use the window opening on the remote locking is the summer. Help get some of the heat out before I get in...

Have lots of arguments with Doris though (yes, I call the sat nav woman Doris!)

Your argument holds no water with me Dawn!

They're just things people say when they haven't got the things they'd like!

The gadgets and gizmos are there to make our lives easier. Or do you still wash your clothes by hand because you enjoy it? Don't own a dishwasher because you can wash them cleaner? Sweep your carpets with a brush as vacuum cleaners are for the elderly? Cut your lawn with Shears as Lawn Mowers are environmently polluting? Shall I go on or do you get the picture? And you are going to reply on another gadget..............your PC!

Case closed.

Hi

I find the City Power Steering button really useful. I know people call it the "girlie button", but when you live in a house like mine, where you've got just about the space of your car to get out, it's so useful! The parking sensors are brilliant too.

The "My Car" menu is pretty good too - i'd prefer the Sat Nav and Abarth dash, but it's still pretty cool.

The automatic wipers are good too, but it does annoy me sometimes when you have to reset them after you've turned the ignition off. Apparantly, so my Fiat garage tells me, its to avoid the wipers wiping with ice on the screen after a cold night, and to prevent activation in car-washes.

I dont know about your cars, but on mine, if the lights come on in the dark and it gets brighter (ive tested it by putting a blanket over the sensor in daylight), the sidelights stay on for about 10 seconds. Does the sensor control the sidelights coming on, or is it dipped beam only, then sidelights when in the "turning off" stage?

Can't think of any other marvellous Stilo gadgets that nobody else has mentioned.

OH! I feel so underpriviledget that I do not have SAT NAV. In greece we still do not have thissystem going. Thankfully by the tims the Olympic Games are over we might have it down here also. Bummer! I am sure I would use it a lot!

I too like the girlie button, especially when parallel parking. :I

One feature I do like, but I'm not sure you can call it a gadget/gizmo, is the way the rear wiper comes on when you select reverse (when your windscreen wipers are on, that is).

The extra swipe the wipers do after washing the windscreen is a neat touch too.
