Very chuckable - steering very precise/extremely hard suspension so absolute hell on speed humps/not too smooth for town driving plus a very heavy clutch. On the motorway though - zoom zoom zoom. Abarth - selespeed. Total magic to drive in town or motorway. Rescued my aching left foot from all those thousands of clutch pumps. Extremely relaxing and civilised to drive but a real snarling tiger when really booted. Suspension softer - definately better with 17"s plus soon to be fitted Strut Brace should improve the steering. Eibachs later to restrict wallowing. Fantastic car and gadgets for the money - loads more room of course. Ideally I would have kept the HGT as well but ££££!

Love the hgt apart from gearbox noise and all things ive had go wrong with it. Got to reject it tho as its using aprox 4 litres of oil in 2 weeks and no one can suss why I drove a abarth stilo a few month back and altho pretty simular 0 to about 40 the stilo was massivly more smoother and faster at higher speeds

I have both (See them in the members motors section) The Stilo feels better built and does things a lot less effortlessly than Punto. The Punto is more fun to drive quickly in my opinion. The interior is nicer in the Stilo with the controls more logically placed. There is more practical room in the HGT interior than the Stilo and this is attested by the fact my two kids are in car seats and they fit better in the punto than the stilo. The Stilo feels quicker than the HGT though they are both supposed to be about the same.

Due to expected even higher mileage I bought a JTD for the fuel economy plus I didn't really think I was losing much performance. Ideally Id've kept the Punto too but I was scared it would cost me a load and since the engine got rebuilt (by Arnold Clarks ) after timing belt failure at 44k miles I kinda expected something oily to break as well. When I bought my Coupe I was actually looking for another younger HGT but there weren't many around and I suddenly realised that for a wee bit less money I could get something with 220BHP I'm still tempted to get another HGT though as it seems to be the perfect blend of weight, power and agility for a full-on backroad thrash (once you've sorted the brakes).
