Morning all,

Going to buy the replacement glow plugs for the mj today.

Does anyone know which are the best / closest to oem spec.

I read that NGK ones take longer to warm up, dont get as hot and dont retain their heat for as long, they are also thinner and could snap easier than others...

Can anyone else comment?

I have Bosch ones and they don't give me any trouble.

NGK is a Japanese spark plug manufacturer... so glow plugs ought to be okay.. and Japanese electronic components don't exactly have a bad reputation. I've never seen or heard that NGK don't make decent kit.

Okay - so ePer shows this part number: 46792355 - this can be cross referenced to Bosch original part no: 0 250 203 001.

Found a set of 4 on ebay for £25 :) - i just hope they are actually genuine Bosch plugs - at that price it is worrying me a little bit.

I have also found the original fiat part number / bosch plugs in the Fiat OEM packaging - but... there £13 odd each, and the manufacture date on the box appears to be 2013 / 10 (october) - so 4 years old...

I want to hit the checkout button but im a little unsure, shall i go for the pack of 4x at £25 or pay twice the price for the single ones...

I have also added some PlusGas Fast Release to the order, I'm thinking - i may attempt to change them myself... Here's hoping lol.
 
The Bosch ones in a Bosch box are the same as the Bosch ones in the Fiat box, so buy the cheaper option.

£25 for 4 plugs (£6.25 each) is not too cheap. They're no more complicated than a regular spark plug.

As well as some squirty release spray, invest in a proper Glo-plug socket. Using a regular socket is more tricky and risks breaking the plug.

It's a 3/8" drive so you will need to also buy a converter socket if you have a 1/2" drive ratchet. Also, I presume the MJet uses a 10mm (hex) glo-plug. I have a JTD, so I dunno for sure.

I have bought the following and paid a little extra to have them delivered earlier... cost me £48 odd all inclusive of p&p extra's etc.

Fingers crossed its an easy job - or it will be another £50 on Monday morning at the garage and I pray to god the garage don't snap the plug as they said its an head off job to get them out, have seen toolkits to remove broken ones so after what they said - i doubt they have them toolkits.

You'd be bloody unlucky to have one snap. The trick is to not put them in too tight in the first place. They only need to be nipped up tight, don't go mad!

If you've replaced spark plugs before replacing glow plugs is no different or no harder. It'll be fine.
 
Its actually very easy to break a glowplug with a big 1/2" ratchet especially a 9mm plug. A 1/4" or short 3/8" ratchet give you a better feel. Use the penetrating oil a few times over a couple of days of heating up and cooling down. Remove them with the engine warm and if one of them is stuck try again with the engine red hot.
 
New plugs arrived, but plus gas and 1/4 inch 9mm bendable socket has not arrived. So wont be doing it today :bum !!
