I had the bonnet open today, contemplating the EGR valve.

I saw a large helpful sticker inside the bonnet give specifications for brake fluid, coolant and windscreen wash.

Right at the top it says (in various languages):

Engine oil: We recommend you use oil.

I'm guessing they mean olive oil :bang:

Lol... ill check mine, due to do my first service shortly (maybe next saturday) glow plugs getting done on monday! New horn later in the week, new oem active sport wheels, well i think they're an option on that model :)

The recommended specification is in the owners manual, but in summary:

petrol engines recommends 10w40 or 5w30 with 10w40 being for warmer climates and 5w30 being used in colder climates (10w40 for UK should be fine).

10w40 should be ACEA A3 of 5w30 should be ACEA A1

Diesel engines recommend 10w40 for warmer climates or 5w40 in colder climates. Again 10w40 should be fine in UK.

10w40 for diesels should be ACEA B3 and 5w40 ACEA B4.

In all cases oils should be "synthetic based", i.e. semi-synth oils.

You'll undoubtedly spark a debate and anyone who claims to be a car guy will have an opinion on which oil they think is better for their car and why.

Personally, I run my Abarth on 0w40 fully synthetic.

The sticker isn't wrong.. :D

You can probably pick any random 10W40 semi-synthetic oil you like and it will meet the requirements.

Keep the level just off "Max" and change it every 12,000 miles or annually and the motore will never wear out.. unless you have a fetish for very shiny innards, in which case, change it more often.

I dunno what's in my beast at the moment.. I remember someone (Eurocarparts?) was selling fully synthetic 5W40 for about £10 for 5 litres (actually a £20 BOGOF) but I've used whatever best cheapest brand was around at the time and my engine doesn't seem too unhappy.

Snap! Run my Shumi on Mobil 1 New Life for 60K now and no issues.

edit: my multijet stilo

Looking at the service history from 2007 to 2010.
Fiat had always used 5/40w Selenia

Since then, it was serviced at Simonstone Fiat (maybe it was same company as before, not sure) and they had been using Silverstone 5w40.

I will be doing a mini service next weekend if funds allow, all depends on what the new tyres are going to cost me on top of the new wheels (if they dont sell before late sunday night ;))

National Tyres do a full oil and filter change for £40 ish. And you get a discount voucher code too.....

And before I get the normal, I hate National Tyres replies, my local one are very good.
