My fiat stilo 1.9 abarth has started having this problem
The instrumental cluster will start flickering and switching its self on and off showing up faults that are not there, it then changed its language to Italian as this is going on I can hear crackling going on from inside the cabin of the car, i personally think its a loose conection and not a fuse I do love my fiat stilos and iv never had anything major that I can't fix myself
If anyone can Advise me or of anyone has had the same thing and could advise me what they did

Sounds like your instrument cluster is on the way out.
Quite common on the stilo's - search the forum and you will find people that fix them.

I do have another stilo but it's a 1.6 and its cluster works fine can u swap them over

You can swap them over, the mileage will flash as its not had proxy alignment.
Also, you can adjust mileage however - you can only go up in mileage not backwards so if the cluster has lower mileage on that your current one - you can adjust it, however if it has more than your current one you cant adjust it backward...

Hope that makes sense lol.

Yes it's worked and the mileage is flashing so I can send that faulty one off to be repaired thank u

Before you send it off for repair have a look around and see if you can find a cluster on the eBay or something. It might be cheaper if you can find one around the correct mileage. Writing the mileage upwards is easy with MultiECUScan.

Avoid Cluster Repairs UK / Unicorn Automotive like the plague. They're cowboy muppets and trashed my Abarth's clocks.

I have a set of 1.9 JTD clocks in the shed that are on about 147k miles if I recall.

Dig them out lad... I might always need some new clocks. :D

I had Yellowstilo (Dutch fella you'll be able to find on this forum) fix my clocks and set the mileage up to the correct amount. The new clocks were reading lower and they were bugging my OCD.. :D

Clocks are mostly interchangeable - if they're the same type (style) and diesel/petrol is the same.

I have heard of these cow boys but I have always used ECU testing for repairs they have a good rep and offer a life time warranty for as long as you own that veichle, it seems to be working today I didn't realise that the clocks would be the same but it's a good temp fix atleast I can get to work

My brother used http://www.ecutesting.com/ to get an ECU repaired for his A-class (don't ask! ) and they did a good job, which is still holding up okay.

When I went to test drive my Abarth the clocks were faulty. Initially the garage said the temp gauge didn't work and they thought it was the sensor and were going to sell me the car cheap with this fault declared.

I'd taken my laptop and cables with me as well as a bluetooth OBD and phone so I could monitor for overheating on the drive home. However when we got it started (flat battery) the cluster was completely dead, so the garage said they'd replace it.

What they replaced the cluster with was a set of clocks of a high miler JTD

They worked just fine on the Abarth albeit it'd rev off the clock of course. Speed was correct and fuel / temp readings worked as you'd expect. Made it a condition of sale that I'd buy it only if the original faulty clocks were supplied too - which he agreed to.

That's when Cluster Repairs UK (who I have affectionately termed Cluster F&^k UK) stepped in and electrically fixed but physically smashed my cluster. Ended up going through a credit card claim against them as they stopped responding to me having initially agreed they'd send parts to fix.

The biggest risk to the clocks being repaired seems to be physical.

I lost my original clocks in the post (when I sent them off to Yellowstilo) - they just vanished and all the Royal Mail could discover is that they never left the country. :(

The second set were from fleabay. The Perspex ("glass") had a slight crack in it but it's hardly visible when the clocks are fitted, with the black lower trim covering it. And the mileage was flashing... although that's normal for a "foreign" clocks set.

They were fine for about a month and then started to play up as before.

Yellow received them this time... :D set the mileage so it was correct and I've since carried out a poxy alignment that has solved the flashing numbers.

I might have to stock up on spare clocks. Of all the stuff on my Stilo (having had some unusual aggro' with the Body Control Module high-beam circuit being FUBAR) I'm most paranoid about the clocks failing again.

What's "cow boy" about yellowstilo ? He's a well respected member of this forum, and there have never been any complaints about the help he offers other members.

Guys I think he was referencing my post about Cluster Repairs UK.

I agree with the above, yellowstilo is very well regarded and had I known better I'd have sent to him to fix too.

Aye! Yellowstilo fixed my clocks and re-set my mileage. They're still working perfectly. :) I would recommend him, especially when you compare prices.

The only drama I had in the episode was that my first set of clocks got lost in the post (Royal Mail got them as far as Gloucester and then they went missing)... so I had to find another set ... which worked for a few weeks but then also packed up just before I needed the cluster for my MOT... :D

I'd use Yellow again. Even Royal Mail managed to get the second set of clocks to him.. (but then, they were insured this time.. :D )

The car is still working perfectly in my post I clearly said I use ECU testing for all my repairs I always have they are a brilliant company its good when people copy part of the post to make you sound like an ass, when i was talking about cowboys I was referring to the previous post that also has a quote about cowboys. Just thought I'd clear this up :)
