Hi all,

I have a constant sound , about every couple of seconds, of what seems to be the deadlocks continually locking and unlocking on the car. It happens when I am driving along, and even when I press the key fob and have locked the car.

The door all remain locked, but there is a quieter version of the locking sound going on and off every couple of seconds.

The only possible related issue that I have with the car is that the "Boot Open" light is lit on the dashboard.

Are these two things related in any way.

Thanks.

Can you hear it louder near the boot?
Does the boot actually lock?

Just thinking that maybe it keeps trying to relock the boot if it thinks its not locked... but dont have a MW so cant really confirm.

If the MW boot / tailgate has any metal contact strips on the bottom of the lid and where it closes, clean them up and see if that helps - thats all i can suggest really...

Can you read it with code reader or MES?
If you had MES you could do some actuator tests etc which might help pinpointing the issue or let you know if its related to the boot issue.

Agree with Dan, I would think it is probably related.

The lighting I think is all done via the CANBUS network, so it's not like old fashioned electronics where it was simply a switch to a light.

Therefore I would conclude it's related. You've got a light on the dash telling you that a hatch is open so that's clearly what the car things.

It's certainly worth eliminating to see if the problem resolves with it as an obvious potentially linked setup.

As Dan says check for contacts in the lock. Again, I'm not 100%, but it may be a microswitch in the lock itself, you know like clipped into the lock mech, which is causing you the issues.

Typically they just get gummed up with muck and a good clean sorts them out although just occasionally they do fail. Give it a clean and a test and see what happens.
