Does anyone have any help and advice or any links to guides with replacing a thermostat on my girlfriends fiat stilo 1.8?
Ive tried to look on google but i cant find any info with the 1.8 engine.

Ive replaced the coolant temp sensor and the gauge works now but the car never gets hot when driving its always nearly in the coldest part of the gauge and the heaters dont get hot. If its sat idling for 10-20 mins then the temperature will get up and the heaters get hot but soon as you get driving its cold again.

Am i right to assume the thermostat is faulty?

Head to the downloads section of this site and download eLearn - this is Fiat's dealer level workshop manual for their own technicians. The procedure should be described in there.

You'll need to download the different parts of the RAR file, burn to CD (or mount to virtual drive) and install.

Copy of procedure attached. Ignore the fact it prints out saying it's for the 1.4; I'm fairly certain this is correct for the 1.8.

Will the system need bleeding after a replace the thermostat? Thats the only concern i have with doing it myself ive never bleeded a cooling system

There is no bleeding as such. Fill the header tank to the fill mark. Run the engine up to normal operating temperature (just let it idle up to temp). Once up to temp flip the heaters over to hot, max warm, and turn blowers on full. Let the blowers go on full for five mins ish and turn engine off.

Let it cool and then top up coolant tank if required. Job done.
