Morning redcat. Congrats on your new car, sounds like you found a diamond in the rough there.

Shame it ended up at a breakers yard but it's probably not the car's fault. Stilos are a difficult market sadly. They're not the most desirable car and probably overlooked for the more well known punto or other marques like peugeot or citroen if you're looking for a small hatch. It's a travesty really as the common rail jtd engines for their time were one of if not the best diesel motors around.

The lower value cars are at a point in the market now where they're only fetching close to scrap money, so someone looking to get out of a car quickly and offload it might well consider breaking or selling to a breaker as opposed to getting nailed on part x.

There is of course no reason why a breakers yard can't buy or take in a car to flip for a bit of extra cash too.

I know one of the big yards not too far from me has two sections, cars for sale or salvage or cars for parts. the salvage stuff is sometimes minor accident damage or MOT failure, some of them are just cheap cars they've bought up and will just service and flip.

Only thing I would say if she's needed a brake fluid top-up is keep your eye out for leaks. Obviously check brake lines but check clutch lines too - runs off same reservoir. The slave cylinders around the bell housing can be known to leak.

Good luck with it - enjoy it and don't forget to post some pics up!

Thanks for your reply Atermis yes il have a look over the break and clutch pipes. The yard I bought it from did have a few other cars for sale about 10 of them . The reason the windscreen washer wasn't working was cause I wasn't pulling enough on the wiper stalk haha

Replaced my washer motor two months after I bought mine, got it from Euro car parts cheap.

turned out to be wrong way round on the electrical connector pins, fronts where squirting the back and back squirting on the front... so instead of messing with the plug... I swapped the hoses round, they're just about long enough to swap around in case you find yourself in the same issue as me.

Just to add, sometimes on JTDs the hydraulic fluid leak might be due to leaking clutch cylinder ! So keep an eye on the level and if the clutch starts misbehaving you have found the cause of missing fluid !
