A quickie simple question.......

Stilo Abarth with Connect Nav+

Main dashboard has failed (no dials/lamps running at all now, and constantly in reset). Before it died completely yesterday, the Nav+ went into doing funnies and 'appears' to be loading up - then going back to the beginning and loading up again... etc

So - the question...................... When a dash pod initialises itself with the reset pulse internally, does it also send its reset pulse to the Nav+ for it to perform a reset too? (and because the dashpod is constantly resetting itself the Nav+ never escapes from reset mode either as its recieving the reset pulses) ??

Dashpod repair is in hand at the moment. When thats working again - will the Nav+ come good or is it dead itself ?.

My initial thought is that the dash shouldnt interact with such detrimental affects on the Nav but I could be wrong. The Nav uses a switched live (to turn the unit on) where the standard CD players are CANBUS triggered.

So you should be able boot the CN+ on the bench if you wanted to try it. I've only ever retrofit CN+ and not owned a car with it factor but i've been able to boot the CNs just by turning it on without the key in the ignition and it should run for 20 mins without ignition pulse. That should give you a clue whether it's willing to boot without interference of the dash or not?

Thanks for the thought.

Yep, replacement dash fitted and its alive again (original will get repaired in slow time and then reinserted), but the CN+ still hanging on the 'fiat' screen, or rebooting back into it.
I cant remove the (music) CD either at the moment - maybe that is hanging things up ?. who knows !.

To remove a stuck CD, you need to remove the CN+ from the car and take off the top cover, then remove the screw holding the eject motor. You'll need a T6 screwdriver for the screw.

Lift the motor up just enough so you can get a finger on the edge of the white plastic gear wheel (arrowed red) then turn the gear wheel clockwise until the CD comes out.

As you turn the gear wheel, the metal tab (arrowed yellow) should move to the left and the CD should start to come out. You can only turn the gear wheel a small amount at a time, so each time you need to release it, hold the tab so it doesn't spring back then turn the gear wheel a bit more until the CD is out.

The wire and crocodile clip in my photo is not an electrical connection, it's just my method of holding the motor out of the way to get a finger on the gear wheel.

CD out succesfully, thanks.

CN+ still not responding so its nothing to do with the CD by the looks of things.

Does anyone have any further suggestions?, is it a known fixable fault?

Story again.....

Driving, playing a CD in the CN+ unit, suddenly went completely dead.

Then went to 'fiat' logo screen, now sometimes goes a little bit further and screen dissapears momentarily with the audio giving a quiet 'pop' and then screen returns again (with logo) .
No further progress.
Fuse F39 fine.
Cant reflash as its not getting past logo screen to get to the next stage.
Putting another CD in has done nothing, other than it now stuck so i have to remove that using the method described.

Is it repairable?, is it dead regulator chip and dried out capacitors like the dashboard fails with?..

Should i just search for another complete unit ?

Any pointers gratefully recieved !!
