Whilst Gerrard (JTD) has been laid up waiting for new brake calipers and an incorrect new handbrake cable to be replaced for its MOT (since passed, using the old cable.... :D ) the battery, which was already becoming feeble has gone flat.

I can charge it and it will be fine day-to-day if I keep using the car... but it will discharge over 1 week if I don't. It used to stay healthy for a fortnight or more, back in the day, if I didn't use the car. I'll check it for any electrical drain but I suspect the beast is just worn out.

What's the spec' of the battery for the Stilo? Fleabay gives me conflicting results .. Types 027 and 096 etc.. ?

I can't go to measure the size (car is dumped on my old Ma's driveway till the weekend.. :D ) but the dimensions seem to be 278x175x175 (027) or 278x175x190 (096) .

I'm always in favour of fitting "the biggest bastard battery that will physically fit" which suggests a Type 096 is the kiddie for me... It would fit in the tray by the sound of it and it has enough cranking power to start an oil tanker... but is 190mm too high for the bonnet? I shall bother Varta or Bosch for a new one once I know the size (or is Yuasa/Exide etc. better)?

I have 096 batteries in both of my JTDs, they are the maximum size that fit in the Stilo battery box. If you currently have a smaller battery fitted, you may need to remove a small plastic spacer from the bottom of the battery box to fit an 096.
