Only have one remaining factory key for our Stilo, and all the options for replacement seem costly.
Is there any reason why I couldn't dismantle the transponder chip from the working keyfob and permanently attach it near the ignition barrel? Gaffer tape it underneath the plastic shroud, for example? Then we could use any dumb cut-to-pattern blade, from Timpsons etc.
It's an old, worthless car and I don't care about any hypothetical vulnerability to theft. Also if the transponder is out of sight, no potential thief could know it had been jerry-rigged. No-one has ever tried to steal my Stilo's (10yrs of ownership), so I don't think it's going to happen now....
