Afternoon guys,

I was planning on buying MutliEcuScan so I could play about with the stilo until it goes to car heaven (estimating around march 2017 ish) - cant afford to keep plundering money into her however i still have a close heart to the stilo and want to tinker until im ready to buy another motor, on another note - i dont want to spend tons on the bodywork either as she's getting very poor now and needs a wing, bumper and fuel filler flap with lock replacing plus other stuff :(

Anyhow - the Mutliecuscan website is down.
Im totally stuck - where can i buy it from with the licence so i can fully utilize it.

Also, i want to be able to talk to all the ECUs (including the airbag one).
Whats the best combo cable kit that will work with everything on my stilo and multiecuscan.

All help greatly appreciated guys.

Okay - so the multiecuscan site is back up!

I need to buy a cable kit, can someone point me in the right direction.
I have seen the 5 piece cable adaptor kit that connects to the elm cable.

Bit worried tho as i read that the Elm cable has to be a specific model.
Can someone help - i want to purchase in one go (well the cable kit and elm).

If someone could link me to a kit that will definaltley work for all of the ecu's on my stilo - ill buy and owe you a pint :)

I saw this but thought I could do it a bit cheaper :( I found the adapter kit for £15 and need correct elm or "good quality" that has correct resistors

Purchased :) should be here Tuesday, can't wait to play...

Oh next thing, multiecuscan licence, I'll buy that the day the cables come :)

Decided to go and buy it now to save mucking about.

Licence arrived in email along with instructions incase i ever need to transfer it to another machine or new os install - brilliant.

cant wait for the cables now :) £62 all in its cost me for the cable kit and licence. much better than the £100+ - hope it all works now.

Davren is correct - you get a 12 month subscription for updates.

Doubt anything new will be added to it that would benefit our stilo's so im not too fussed about that - its probably never gonna have updates relating to older cars - more like just bug fixes and new cars being added - if i dont buy another fiat next year, then its no use to me after that and i may transfer my licence for free to another machine so it may be up for grabs after March next year :)

Nicey. I've been slowly coming round to the notion that I'll need to invest in a reader and software... the more elderly my old Stilo gets, the more likely it is to need it.. :D

Does the multiecuscan kit and plugs also fit any late-90's Alfas? I have a 145 which might also benefit (though electronically, that tends to behave itself).

To a point OBD2 USES A 16pin socket..

Before 2001 is basic OBD..3 - PIN

SO LESS DATA.

ALL THE COMPATABILTY ON THE MES SITE

vehicle list..shows what cables required to connect to which ecu

The actual MES program also prompts you..

It does prompt you for correct adaptor to a point but doesnt tell you when you dont need the adatpor so i had to check the mes website to see what connection i needed from my pack - and for the engine and immobilser i didnt need the adaptors, just the elm / obd.

couldnt tell you mate, all i can say is that knowing its an alfa it may have a more up to date computer system than say my old 94, 95 and 96 nissans, my 97 audi had all the mod cons so maybe the alfa will... and will more than likley need vag com kline for basic stuff then elm / obd for engine ecu / immobiliser etc, and then colours for different stuff like airbags, power steering, abs, electronic hood.

also, i had to check for you... mes supports the 145 in various engines, if you could tell me the spec ill tell you if it supports it and the engine too... finally, check the mes website to see what it says about what ecu's are support for your car, its defo worth the buy for cable kit, my kit cost less than £20 and one connector had bent pins, easily straightened with pincers.... thats the comms to the cars sorted, then ya mes licence - 50eu, was £43 for me. licence was returned to me within 10mins via a hardware key, along with info incase you change your pc and os and have to re-register.

rest is a breeze but mes can be vauge so have a play :)

Note that for some older cars with 3 pin diagnostic connectors you have to use a "dumb" KL interface like the VAG-Com leads as well as the 3 pin adaptor. The ELM327 type can't handle some of the non-standard protocols.
Also if you can run MES without the interface (or car) by pressing "Simulate" instead of "connect". You get typical data but at least you can play in the comfort of your armchair.

I get what your saying Rob, i did this to simulate procedures rather than trial and error mainly.

My kit came with elm / obd usb and a vag com kl interface cable usb then the adapors in a seperate bag... should be ok for older cars using vag lead? both use latest ftdi driver.

My '45 is a 1.8 Twin Spark. My Stilo is a 1.9 JTD.

Yes, that lead will work for older cars. The only other thing you might need is a 3 pin adaptor like ebay item 271557607528 (random selection, I've not bought this exact item)

Robert G8RPI.

Bit confused now as the older 3 pin cables come with a crocodile clip to do what i dont know, maybe to add power to the line?

But for the price, Ralf - i'd buy it just to be safe, nowt worse than getting everything then finding out that you have to wait another few days for something you forgot...

Ralf, below is a list of all Alfa 145 models support, i have also pointed out the cable info for your 1.8 TS, its tricky to get your head round the cable terminology they use on the MES site but once you've cracked it, you will be fine.

Alfa Romeo 145:

1.3
1.4 TS 16v
1.6
1.6 TS 16v
1.7 16v
1.8 TS 16v -
2.0 TS 16v
TD

1.4 TS 16v - '98
1.6 TS 16v - '98
1.8 TS 16v - '98
2.0 TS 16v - '98

1.9 JTD '99

Now - having looked at the MES website list, the 145 1.8 TS 16v - shows this for the cables:

Bosch Motronic M2.10.4 Injection (TS 16V) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KLOBDKey 3-Pin

Bosch ABS 5.3 |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KLOBDKey 3-Pin

TRW MY97 Airbag (2F) |INFO|DTC|PRM| KLOBDKey 3-Pin

TRW2 Airbag |INFO|DTC| KLOBDKey 3-Pin

- Looks like you need the three pin as aleady stated above and no need for adaptor cables :)
