Hi, :)
so does it CRAWL over slowly,
or spin normally - just not run..??

when it does it again,
watch the lights on the dashboard - do they dim / flash..??

Battery is brand new just fitted 1 week ago. Running fine with cold start, when you travel for a certain miles then i switch off the engine and start again the problem happens. We need to try about 5-6 times or more before the car start again.

All secured and tight, it's been cleaned

Doesn't mean that the cable itself is not corroded internally.

There are ppl who advocate hitting a starter motor with a hammer a few times (lightly), but in some cases it might damage it.

What I would do if I would have a car with this kind of issues, I would measure the voltage at the starter pins when someone else is trying to start the car. The problem here is that starter is a high current circuit, so measuring resistance of the cable will not help, it needs to be tested for voltage drop under load.

So, plan of attack (have a voltmeter handy in the car) when it won't start again:

1. light taping with hammer (be gentle) on the starter motor... Try to start ... If the problem is gone, it should start no problem. In this case, consider "a new starter investment".

2. ask someone to put the key into "crank" position and measure the voltage at starter pins. Post here what it reads ... Could be the issue with the cable itself. If it is internally corroded, it will misbehave under load.

3. Could be the issue with grounding on the block (I guess that is where the starter takes it's ground from). Check the block ground under load. (again, don't just blindly measure resistance between block and battery ground. Do a voltage drop test under load.)

Don't start throwing parts at it without diagnostics.

Hi thanks for this, it's been hammered and check all voltages are fine, the only problem are the car start straight away when the engine is cold no problem but when we travelled about 20-30mins so the engine was hot after that turn the engine off, when we start the engine again the problem is happens we just heard clicking no crank, sometimes the engine cranking then stopped. won't start. we try several times to start the engine..

Thanks

Well, let me try to check my understanding. When engine is hot, all the voltages are fine, but starter doesn't spin. What are we discussing then? Starter is nothing more than electrical motor which "spits out" the shaft, gets a mechanical contact with flywheel and turns the engine. If it gets correct voltage and enough current and still doesn't spin -> swapping the starter is the easiest approach. If you wanna go fancy, you can take it apart and see what internal issues it has. If you want to find out why it only works on cold and you are absolutely sure your wiring/relay are 100% good and battery is capable of giving enough current -> take it apart and see.

Thing to consider here: copper has higher resistance at higher temperatures... But ...
