Hey all

My car went in for a new cam belt today and the garage have rung back tellin me i need a new inlet manifold due to somethin that has come off relating to swirlflaps

Apparently its common on the astra and because of same engine the 1.9 jyd multijet stilo

My question is 630 quid a fair price to replace inlet manifold, new cammbelt and water pump and oil change?

What are these swirlflap things and why are they so expensive lol? Ive not noticed any problems with the engine?

that doesnt sound too far off what i paid, its the labour on the manifold(if its there first one they could be on it a lot longer than they think), a new manifold can be had for about £130 ish as i bought a new one and deflapped it and let he garage fit that one, so if new manifold is in that price too id say pretty good.
they have to break into coolant obviously to do pump and manifold and i think i got a thermostat done at same time, worth think about.
on a side note if moneys tight and its just the bar thats dropped off there are repair kits to fix em back on on likes of ebay.
vid on here also i think

edit
also ive heard of repairs where the tops of the flaps are fixed in open position with epoxy etc this is sometimes preferable if the flap pivots are worn and leaking boost.
if you go down this route the actuator has to be disconnected from underneath number 3 flap, this will leave ecu thinking all is well, dont disconnect the plug as it will probably throw a code.
if you havnt noticed an issue you probably wouldnt notice afetr any of the fixes, de flapped or fixed open flaps usually report a loss of low end torque
