I need to replace the entire drivers side headlamp on a three door Stilo. It's physically broken and is rattling around and looks unsalvageable. This exercise is supposedly bumper off and am wondering if
(a) it is indeed necessary to fully remove the bumper? If so, could someone kindly give me some pointers please, particularly with the location of the screws, bolts and fasteners to be removed

(b) if removal isn't needed, is there an easier way of swapping the headlamp unit?

Many thanks in advance peeps! (y)

You can't replace the headlamp without removing the bumper.

The bumper is held on with 8 x T35 torx screws and 2 x 8mm hexagon head screws.

1 x T35 and 1 x 8mm hex each side fix the top sides of the bumper to the bottom of each wing behind the wheel arch liners.

2 x T35 under the front of the bumper. These 2 are known to seize in their rivenuts and snap off.

4 x T35 fix the top of the bumper to the bonnet slam panel. Leave these 4 until last so the bumper hangs there while removing the lower screws.

If you have headlamp washers, be careful when lowering the bumper, because of the washer pipe.

There are also 3 screws in each side that hold the bumper and the plastic wheel arch. You cannot proceed if not start from these screws!

Just did mine for NCT last week its pretty straight forward, I got a DEPO unit from ebay for £24 delivered with parcel motel. The depo unit is actually better quality than the oem one, oem reflector and lamp holders were very shoddy. Lamp holders were pressed in and came loose on both lamps I had to epoxy them last year, the depo ones are much stronger metal and screwed on.

You can get away with just removing the bolts from the side in which you're changing the headlight cluster. I never fully removed the bumper when replacing mine, you'll want to support the side still attached though, and be careful to not damage it by dropping it on the floor.

I also only took centre bolts an the side bolts from the side I was changing the headlight, them bolts under the side of the bumper make you swear, id give them a good spray before you start. keep your headlight covers incase the new ones fall off!
