Hi all, I thought I'd share this weekend's finding as it might help someone out with this irritating issue.

Since I bought the car last year (1.6 active) I've had an occasional hot start issue, or so I thought. At the weekend me and my bro were under the bonnet trying to diagnose a rattling sound which turned out to be the waterpump.

Once we'd sussed that out I told him about the hot start issue and told him to start the car, sure enough, it just turned over and wouldn't start, as if it had no fuel supply or spark. I said it did that when it had warmed up sometimes, it seemed to worse after a long run. He then, locked and unlocked the car on the remote and the car started fine. We did this a few times and I tried it after a run up to Liverpool and it worked again! So, if the immobiliser is reset the car starts fine.

This is an easy one to try for anyone having this issue.

Greetings!

Had the same problem on a JTD.
Changed the crank sensor and problem gone.

Cost me 9€ from China (aliexpress).

Cheers

I'd already changed the crank sensor and the problem remained. Infact it still remains, not even the immobilisor trick worked last night. Bloody thing.

its more than likley a problem with your body computer, the ecu in the engine bay, the 1.6 has known issues with the solder joints on the pins cracking (pins drop down) and dont connect properly

If you youtube this, you will find a video of a chap that fixed this issue, he had allsorts of problems on the dashboard and with starting...

First thing i would do, dismantle the ecu with two big black plugs on it (held on by red retaining clips) - then, cleap up the inside of it and the PCB, then reflow all the solder joints and make sure the pins to the connectors are all level and clean.

See how it goes after that ;)

Cheers for that, I've had the ECU off and the pins are all level. I might do it again and give it all a good clean. My problem is quite mild really, it starts fine 90% of the time, just the odd occasion when it's warm, still annoying though :)

Sounds more like the ecu if your saying it happens when warm, just reflow all the solder joints you can see and relocate the ECU so the engine heat doesnt affect it, covered many times on here.

Yes I've seen most of the posts on here, thanks for dropping in. I'll get it sorted. :)

Ok, just a quick update. I relocated the ECU from the top of the engine and mounted it on the side of the battery box. Problem SOLVED :)
