How do I tell the difference between a tuning box and a simple rip off resistor setup on ebay?

I don't want a full map just a tuning box, but I'm getting confused when looking on ebay, as I believe a resistor just over fuels the fuel rail? and can cause problems?
is that correct?

Tuning Diesels (RoverRon) had a very good rep on the Rover forums (my old car forum), hence why the Synergy's are called RonBox

I've used the RoverRon synergy box on both my 1.9 jtd 8v stilos for the last 2-3 years, it is easy to fit and really makes a difference to the performance. Definately worth the money in my opinion, it was about £100. Done 60,000 miles with one fitted no problem. You may have to update your MAF, check out the Synergy box guidance which is very thorough - just google it.

I've not tried any others, so don't know how it compares.
