General EGR valve problem

Try 'Carparts for Less' or 'Europarts' Both deliver at good prices, and you get a choice of manufacturers.

You do not give info on what problems you are having with the egr, the usual problem is that the solenoid in the egr becomes stuck as after time and miles it gets choked up with black soot, so perhaps removal and giving it a clean out checking the solenoid part moves with not sticking, or you could just get a blanking plate for a few pounds or make one yourself and blank the valve off, plenty info on that if you search the forum and not too far down the page a recent post on requesting a source of a blanking plate.

I agree with mhowse - whats the problem you're experiencing?

I know on the 16v jtd m-jets and beyond you can separate the solenoid / actuator from the actual valve body itself so you can see if its the electrical actuator or the mechanical valve that's gotten seized up.

In the Alfa installations it seemed to be the case that the breather pipes fed vaporised oil back up the intake, which when it reached the intake mixed with the diesel soot from the EGR valve to form a real primevil sort of ooze that gunked the things up to hell and back. A jolly good clean out with some carb cleaner and detailing toothbrush type deals usually did the trick.

In the earlier Alfa installs there was a product update to actually fit a restrictor plate on the EGR intake side to restrict the amount of exhaust gas coming back in. I am fairly sure on the older vehicles you can even get away with blanking completely without it throwing any error codes. The later euro spec engines (maybe 4 onwards - can't remember for certain) would throw an air quality code.

Makes the run so much smoother if you get rid of the exhaust gas.

+2 for the above - you have to remove the EGR anyway, so I'd be checking that solenoid/clean everything up. Or blank it.

When I did mine, I had a sticky egr and faulty solenoid - the pin was not springy any more. I simply blanked the egr system off and ive passed every mot since - my emissions are mint, car drives mint. Well worth considering.
