Hello,
Can anyone help with this before the car is subject to me letting off steam all over her. I washed her on saturday and when i started her up to move her forward there was a really strong smell of petrol in the car. She started okay and all okay,( i thought.) Tried to start her tonight for the first time and no chance. The engine is turning but the car doesn't seem able to catch. My husband thinks the accelerator cable feels loose to him as if there isn't any resistance there, but i'm not sure.
Please somebody tell me it's a simple fix, as after having to replace washing machine and fridge the expenses keep mounting.

Den in what way did you wash her? Wet electrics connected to the battery, or a dud battery. Check the battery connectors and fuses in that area. That area does not like moisture or water, hence the cover.

I meant to say accelerator pedal. Just a bit annoyed with her at present. Thanks for replying.

As you say its petrol - check all fuses, fuse box near battery, d4 connector under the battery.

Also, get it on a computer - mine was missfiring the other day and for the past two months it stank of petrol when started cold, i changed the coils on cylinder 2 and 4 as they where bringing up faults in the ECU when reading with a diagnostic tool.

Once i changed the coils - the car runs perfect and it no longer over fuels when starting up cold and fuel economy is back to normal - a crap spark can cause all sorts of issue from over fueling to a missfire.

Worth a check.

Which engine have you got and like said check if theres spark

Thanks for reply.
The coils were changed about 2 months ago. In the end i phoned the garage and they towed it in cos it refused to start for them. Apparently the car was left outside overnight and when he tried to start it in the mornig it did. They have checked it all over and they can't find anything wrong so it's a mystery at present.......unless it decides to re-appear in the future.
Thanks for the replies and hope you all have happy motoring days.
