On to the next bloody issue!!!!
So a few weeks ago the car sailed through its MOT with no advisories at all.
Great I thought,
The car has sat on my drive for a few weeks and subsequently, the already naff battery has died.
I removed the battery and let it trickle charge in my garage for two days.
refit the battery and went to start the car. The car started no problems..... or so I thought.
I now have a completely unresponsive dash. No gauges or warning lights at all.
The only thing showing on the dash was the time ( albeit at 00.00).
Ive fitted a new battery and cleaned every terminal and fuse that I can find thoroughly with contact cleaner but still nothing.
Today I removed the cluster and cleaned the plug connector...... Still nothing.
I then sprayed the rear of the PCB with contact cleaner and refit the unit.
Now I have only the warning lights and the rear of the PCB is making a humming/buzzing noise.
The noise seems to be coming from a small black cylinder on the rear of the PCB.
Ive read all of the threads on here about the clusters and how people have them refurbed. Ive checked and there are quite a few firms that fix them relatively cheaply, but I really want to know what it is that breaks down on them.
All the firms state that it is a "common problem" with Stilo clusters, but none of them are prepared to say what it is that actually fails.
Going to take the car out for a spin tomorrow and see if the cluster returns to working form... If not its gonna have to go away for repair.
At the moment the cluster has the following -
Speedo - No
Rev counter - No
Fuel Gauge - No
Illumination (when headlights switched on) - No
Indicator light - No
Warning lights (abs, seat belt, etc ) - Yes
Clock - No
Time and date - No
