Hi all replaced batter today at motormania they did for me. And it made a gass leak sound and crackling from fuse box / relay area and started to smoke from thir I've removed all relays and connected battery and theirs still a gass leak sound but no crackling sound it's been connected correctly also, fiat stilo 1.4 16v 05

looks like you dont have a battery cover by the dirt on the fusebox?, typical stilo battery fuseboard. gets dirty/wet and then corrodes the tracks and layers causing what you have.

your best bet would be to if you have time take the fuse box out and apart see and give it a clean, i done my last 2 Stilos, once you get the first "layer/card" off you know what to expect. theres a guide here:

or get one from ebay, try to get one from the same year/spec as they changed on the newer Stilo's 04 i think onwards.

EDIT-there are plugs on the bottom that connect to the fusebox be worth checking if they are on right.

Hi paul you are right was moisture under their so took apart and hair dryer it and now it's perfect I've coverd with a plastic bag for now as I can't find a cover anywhere
