Hi all my car had p0420 4 weeks ago, so I replaced lamda
Above cat as that's what it was and my
Mpg is rubbish around town, 33mpg even on a 40 mile round trip goes to 35 :/ should I use cataclean

1.6 here, but your figures seem about right, im only getting an average of 32, on 'combined' cycle. variables are too large, what speed you do, any hills, what weight you have, driving style, even down to which oil you are using.

ive had as high as 42 and as low as 27...

why would you want to use cataclean to attempt to rectify a percieved fault with fuel usage?

best thing you can do is have a look at your fuel trim figures before you decide to condemn a cat but youll need OBD stuff to find out.

depending on how your lambda failed and how long it has failed for its possible you could have physically damaged your cat.

start with basics first, look into giving her a service if it hasnt been done recently (including air filter and plugs) and also see how your ecu is trimming the fuel.

Interesting to hear the figures for these 1.4 and 1.6 cars.

My 2.4 does 34mpg if I'm careful, 29mpg more often - which is also the official 'combined' fuel consumption figure. I use this in each tankful (one bottle does about 350 litres), which seems to help keep the fuel system/injectors really clean and the performance and consumption as they were when new....

Petrol cars only, though - not for diesels!

i think i manage to get between 34 and 38 on the Coupe, but thats from memory and i havent calculated it in a long time...

i should probably come clean and say that my pre-cat lambda is throwing an intermittent fault and i have P0420 because my cat is goosed due to it burning oil (shes getting an engine rebuild and new cat before feb *hopefully*). my LTFT also around +20%

I got the 1.2. At the start of October i took it from Scotland to Cochem in Germany and a few other places. Motorways were an average of 80mph and a fair bit of slower town driving. My computer was saying average of 42.5mpg when i got home. I have not re set it and did another 400 miles since getting home with more town driving and its saying 41.2mpg as of yesterday. I like my car :D

Haha I'm glad you like yours mate I would if I was achieving a little better than 35 lol even on a 200 mile roun trip it's 37s

Doesn't cataclean clean the fuel system and improve mpg? I had p0420 anyway so I thought I would run some through and change lambda, my catalst itself is fine

Not that i think you are thick but ill ask anyway. You are using the sixth gear? Did you re set the computer as it may be giving you an average but taking into consideration the previous trips. Not sure if it can be done but its not set to KPH by any chance?

Hi mate yes using 6th & I don't reset it always after every trip is that ok? Or should I reset after
I do a bigish trip and before the trip, no mate it isn't set to kph, on instant consumption it's always in 90s+++ until I stop then it goes to 0 again

I was getting around 40mpg mixed driving on a 12.5 mile journey to work, on the way home it would drop to around 35mpg (baring in mind that on the way home its a tonk up the M606 for a couple of mins and a fairly decent incline so that explains it).

Over the past couple of months and more so recently - its dropped a bit, get around 35 to work and drops to around 30 - 32 when i get home, was thinking the drop in efficiency might be due to needing a service, did a full service this time last year so it's due another now (done around 10k since then)...

Anyone an idea on the best oil to use? would pay more if its going to help her keep smooth and cause less ware on the engine - its a 1.2 16v - 87k.

Do you fill your car up? Reason i ask is at next fill up fill till the pump clicks off. Re set computer and do 100 miles. Fill car back up and you can work out your mpg with a good old bit of pen and paper and compare to your computer. I just use average. Instant is only good if on a long flat road and using cruse control. Is it you that has a post about noisy clocks? If so mine were making a noise before they gave up the ghost. Yours may be on the way out and computer giving false readings hence saying use pen and paper.

So anyway... heres my MPG after a 20 minute run down the M69 and M6.

215/45R17 34PSI, full tank of fuel... approx 30kg in the boot. Mostly an indicated 70mph on the dash on cruise control for 80% of journey.approx 1 mile of <40mph residential roads the rest is 40-50mph in light traffic. 7 sets of traffic lights.

Also screenshot of LTFT I'm pretty sure due to failing precat Lambda and or physical cat damage. Usually peaks at +20-25%... sods law -10 is the lowest I've seen it for a while when hot at idle.
