Hi guys, my '03 1.6 stilo is throwing up a loose connection error message on startup with the code u1702,and the power steering is'nt working,
This has been happening since about 6 weeks ago when i changed the engine, and i was putting it down to a connector under the fusebox near our friend the dreaded D4...
But as the fault would dissapear once restarted i left it till today to fix, because i have the (nct/mot) tomorrow!!!!but now it is happening every 2nd startup:cry:
Also since the engine change at startup occasionally i've noticed the speedo needles flicker to the max and i get a high temperature warning..???even when cold, however now if that happens i dont get the power steering fault:confused:
so far ive completely dismantled the engine bay fusebox, used contact cleaner on
all connections, any help welcome, thanks in advance.

Sorry, more info, its a week since i cleaned the fusebox, and all i did today was tracing wires and cleaning the specific connections, battery voltage is 12.6v idle and charging at 14.6v.

Battery can throw the temperature warning power steering warning messages. Borrow someone elses battery see if it fixes. If you can't borrow one charge overnight, clean the battery terminals, check/clean engine earth strap connections, engine bay earths, check alternator wiring.

You replied while I was typing. 12.6v sounds fine for a rested battery (5hours at least) and sounds like its charging ok. Borrow a battery or get it load tested and check those earths.

does anyone know the diferance between the 3 door steering column and the 5-door or multiwagon one?

There is a difference in the angle of the column mounting.

'Loose Connection' message can result from an engine fault, e.g. RPM sensor (crank sensor). The engine ECU causes a delay on the CAN bus (while it self-diagnoses) that produces the 'Loose Connection' message. Therefore, I'd suggest checking all control units for faults. Actually it might be your steering fault that is causing the 'Loose Connection' message. That's the thing with Stilos - everything is related to everything else :) I think anyone that works on these needs a copy of MultiECUScan and the relevant leads (ELM327 and red/green adapters).

i have multiecu scan and the leads, thankfully since it passed the test and the pressure of it failing the test beacuse of the steering fault has gone i can think clearer now,I'll post any progress.

Thanks for your help.
