Hi guys, well let's start this off by asking someone for some expert advice!

I'm having issues with inconsistent idling! Shoots up and down like there's no tomorrowWhen I stop at a stop street I have to stay on the brakes as the car keeps pushing forward.

What could be the common causes of this as I am now completely LOST. It's annoying and let's not mention fuel...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Without knowing how old your car is, that is often a symptom related to the inlet plumbing.

Either the air control valve is dirty/sticky or there is a hole in one of the little control air pipes around there.

I did a temporary fix on my Renault by locating the hole (use a spray bottle with water in it - spray around and wait for the engine note to change- do one area at a time, keep at it and you will track the hole/split down) by using gaffa tape while I waited for the replacement pipe - or you can use fish tank plastic pipe for a temporary fix.

If it's the air control valve, you can clean it out with brake cleaner. Give it a good dosing followed with draining. When the brake clean runs clear you are good to go. You can test the air valve with a 12 battery - it should open and close fully. If not, it needs cleaning. If it doesn't move at all, it may be toast, but they are pretty tough little items.
