Hi everyone.

Looking for some assistance with a number of issues and have lost the will to trawl my way through all the posts!

Some months ago I purchased a 1.6 multi wagon with the head gasket gone and airbag warning light on. Being familiar with Fiats and Stilos thought why not!? Had it on my drive where it started and ran for short periods without issue other than the airbag warning light.

Two weeks ago I completed the head gasket, ran it, bleed the cooling systems, cooling fan kicked in and then ran it some more with the revs up and all seemed well. It even started up again several times that day as I started to fix more mundane things like the rear wiper.

Since then it will not start and my fault code reader (SUN Modis) won't access the engine ecu through the Fiat software as it did during the post work run up but will through the generic OBD. Only code in there is one for an ac pressure switch.

The dash displays 'security system failure' 'loose connection' and the airbag which was already there.

There is no feed to the fuel pump and it doesn't even prime with the ignition. The remote works and the indicators flash as they did before and it cranks. I've charged the battery, a couple of times now and left it disconnected each time over night.

So, the question is, does anyone have wiring diagrams and location information for components and values and does any one have any suggestions on possible causes and solutions without going on a parts fitting exercise?

Secondly, the airbag faults are drivers side airbag squid and passengers side airbag squid. I've been trying to locate the connectors for them and have not been able to see them on either the A, B or C posts. I have demolished one trim in the process and don't wish to destroy any more! On my 5 door hatch they were conveniently located in the boot behind a panel. Cant seem to find them on this one! Any ideas where?

Thirdly, has anyone had a rear seat apart? The center seat belt has locked some how and I need to release the tension in order to allow it to unlock itself!

Failing that I have already filled my 20ltr jerry can and have a health supply of matches! It's getting close! If it doesn't start co-operating it will be sent to valhalla!

:bang:

sounds like the Engine ECU has thrown a wobbly/failed... its covered to death on here. i had security failure warning when mine was on its way out. loose connection is a shoddy translation from italian that means 'Lost Connection' if you cant access the engine ecu through somthing as complex as the Modis or via MES then my money is firmly on the ECU being shot. wiggle the multi plugs on top of it and try to start it as the pins in the ECU itself are known for coming de soldered on the PCB. also remove the multiplugs and check the pin height... they should all be of equal length apart from 2or 4 next to each other on one of the rows, if i had a little more time i could show you exactly what i mean.

theres a place called 'BBA Reman' that do ECU repairs, their prices are circa £300 but they do offer a lifetime warranty on repairs... failing that plug and play virginised ECUs are only £160 from 'the Bay' to get you out of a tight place. and whilst i understand that 160 isnt cheap its better than BBA remans price for a repair. also double check the IAW number on the ECU as this link might not be suitable for your car. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-STIL...SELF-CODING-/201423968237?hash=item2ee5cdd7ed

the central locking will work becaus its dealt with by the Body computer, the fuel pump feed, i believe, is given by the Engine ECU

the squib faults... not squid*, if its the one i think it is, the multiplug is in the boot above the top shock absober mount (base of C-Pillar, have another look ;) ), probably have to take out a little insert panel. the connector will probably be yellow or orange and the wiring will have a yellow sheath around it. kinda hard to explain without pics but if your familiar enough with the the stilo youll know where i mean... unplug it check for corrosion and plug it back in a few times, that *should* fix it

Thanks for the response Rich!

Been chewing my way through this little blighter!

Having traced the wiring a number of issues seemed to be related to the engine bay fuse box. Having eventually found a post on here I dismantled it and cleaned it, the relay terminals, replaced a relay and the f18 fuse if memory serves me right which the only reference I could find was rear fog. Then with high hopes refitted it and .... no change.

Left it a couple of days and return to bang my head further. Tried it just to see and it started. So at this stage I'm not sure if something dried out or something I did. Seems odd?!

The only issue I have at the moment is the airbag! I know the yellow connector you're describing as I had this code on my 5dr 1.2. My multi wagon is different. I eventually found the squib connection by removing the 'D' post trim. I've checked and cleaned the connections with no effect. I have to think there is another connection or two as the code status doesn't change with the squibs disconnected. So at this stage I'm tracking the loom to locate any more connectors but as I can see the loom runs down each sill towards the front meaning I'll be upside down under the dash!

I'll post when I've found something of interest!
