Morning All

After reading aload of posts checking my fuses and testing the glow plugs twice to confirm if they are ok, my 1.9JTD Multiwagon really struggles to start in the morning.

Here the story!,I got the car with the pre-heat message, the relay was not switching so i checked the fuse (50A Maxi) under the bonnet, it sorted the pre-heat message and the relay would switch/click tested using the software aswel.

Now im confused in what else to check, she really struggles takes aload of turns to get her to fire in the mornings.(n)

-All Plugs are coming back with good Resistance(y)
-Heater Relay switches as should(y)
-Cleaned the connector into the relay unit with PCB cleaner(y)
-Changed the 50A Maxi fuse (is there anymore?)

Im stumped on what to-do:bang:, i have 4 new plugs to fit, but if the ones in are coming back ok.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I doubt the glow-plugs are the problem at this time of year - even in winter the JTD engine will fire up without need of preheating unless it is exceptionally cold.

Once started does it run OK and cleanly and start OK throughout the day, or is it always difficult to start?
I assume that it is turning over briskly but takes it's time in firing up. So the battery is not the issue.
If it's smoking there may be an issue with the EGR. Clean or blank.

Morning Peat

Yes its had a new crank sensor, i have charged the battery in case it was that(only12months old). i have blanked the EGR, there no smoke cold or warmed up and yes once warmed up doesnt take much to get her to fire!!.

I also put a bottle of Redex in once every 3/4 weeks to keep injectors clean etc, and she never has any cheap fuel always Shell or BP.

I'd go to Halfrauds for a battery test. My dearly departed Multijet was difficult to start but had no warnings displayed. The battery was relatively new but Halfrauds did a free battery health check and found that even though the voltage was OK one of the cells was dead.
Changed it and the problem was sorted

An update and a bit of a bump. battery is ok,

if i give the turn of the key to warm the plugs 5/6times in the morning she will start with around 8 turns.

i read somewhere about the top of the fuel filter housing warms the fuel? am i right?.

Is there a way i can test the plug to the relay (not from the relay to the glow plugs already checked them) and if i can test this fuel filter housing that wrms the fuel?

Need to get this sorted before the cold arrives!, its the only main problem i have not fixed.:bang:
