Hi all

I know this has been covered before but what's happening in my case is that i can fit the check strap no problem but when the door is closed and i try to open the window it hits the back of the strap inside the door for some reason.

The strap was missing when i first had the car but when i removed the door panel for some unknown reason i found the strap lying in the bottom of the door on trying to refit it this is what is happening so i have to leave it removed

Any ideas anyone

Pete

Anyone

I cant just leave it off for good anybody had this problem or seen this before the door is not damaged in anyway at all.

When i first had the car i had to replace the electric window mechanism as the cable was all twisted and it did,nt work... that's when i found the door stay laying in the bottom of the door so on trying to replace it this is what is going on and i want to fix it as my drivers door is just flapping about in the wind ive looked at a diagram of it and the part i have looks the same as the one in the diagram i dont understand whats going on... i need some help with this one

Pete...

Buy a new one. This part was re-engineered so it's now plastic coated, works more smoothly and doesn't break. Without the check strap, if a high wind catches the open door, it will fold back on itself and crease your front wing (and probably rip out the wiring that joins the door to the body shell).

Thanks for that guys ive checked out ePER and found the parts i need it does look the same in the diagram although the system couldent find the vin no i found it through other information from my v5 are the prices quoted there correct as it,s a lot cheaper than from my local dealers

No, it's the same dealers use, in fact, it was never intended for use by the public at all...
This year, Fiat dealers worlwide have changed to another system, so ePER version 84 is the last and latest.
I suggest any Fiat owner working on his/hers own car to get this cd.

Hi thanks for that

The good thing about it is that i found the part numbers to the bits i need looked them up on the popular auction site and found them now i can get them from there

There,s one more thing i need to say is that the o/s rear door has no strap either for some reason and ive never had the panel off that door is also undamaged so before i buy anything i think it might be a good idea to remove the panel on that door as well to see if the check strap is inside there might be a chance you never know the front door one might be laying in the rear door.

Someone has really been messing with this car, as recently i found out why the boot was,nt opening on the central locking i thought i needed a new lock but on stripping the panels from inside the boot i found the wires to it disconnected for some reason i reconnected them and it worked perfectly so i think maybe its best to check things first so,s i see what parts i really need

UPDATE

Hi just to round this problem off ive now sorted it out following advice on here ive searched the net and managed to get the right parts (not from ebay) Fitted them yesterday and everything went on fine.

I did,nt pay top prices or go to the dealers i found a site that searches out breakers for the right parts you need then all you have to do is ring the breakers then lets you know anyway looking at it now as Peter pick up said it was the wrong part i was trying to fit even though the new strap did look the same as the old one there must have been differences i,m now thinking the old strap could have been for the 2 door version

Anyway everything's sorted now and through all this ive found a great fiat breaker in Wickford Essex i now know who to phone if i ever need anything else
