Well, look slike a bit of savin' up and straight to the dealers for me!!! I find it incredible that for once there is omething easy you can do to the Stilo that works!!!

You could get the Alfa stick, mod the steering cowling slightly and get it for £50! ANd there's no need to go to the dealers, it's a piece of cake to do :D (would have said P1$$ but that's just naughty! :p)

Re: cruise control

Yes, it's all part of a guide I'm slowly writing up. Although its simple:

Does the car have ESP? (1.8, 2.4, JTD got it as standard I believe).
- If YES, then it's prewired at the steering column.
- If NO, then it could be prewired at the battery compartment, if not, it's going to have to be wired up manually.

Hopefully the guide will be up soon, when I get around to it that is

Why is the Alfa stick so much cheaper?? isn't almost the same as the Stilo's?? Does the cruise control stalk come together with the lights stalk?? I'd been told that it would cost about 150-200 euros......

As for looking for a Stilo tha's been broken up, i think it'll be pretty hard as Stilo's arn't all that popular here in Spain so i don't think it would be easy to find one....

By the way, when i said trip o the dealers i meant o get he stlak, i'll fit it myself, lucky for me i have ESP!!!!!

Thanks a lot for all the info guys great help(y) (y) :worship: :slayer:

Re: cruise control

wen you buy the fiat cruise control you get every thing indicator stalk light stalk and cruise control stalk all in 1. but the alfa cruise control is just the cruise control stalk on it own i think thats y its cheaper. i may be wrong

Stripey is right, the stalk isn't available separately on the Stilo's, and was only available separately on the Alfa 147 facelift. I have tried seeing if it was available on the Stilo facelift but surprise surprise, it isn't!

Hence, you could either get the Stilo stalk (cheapest set is around £130) for an original fit, or get the Alfa stalk (looks almost identical, but the lower shroud plastic needs to be cut a bit more) for around £40.

And still, if any dealer magically gets the LED to come on, please let us know (with Examiner menu's ideally :D)

but if the Alfa stalk is different will there be somewhere to fit it?? I don't mind cutting the cover but where is the stalk atatched if the spot is occupied by the lights switch??

Also, more importantly, will the Alfa facelift cruise control work????????????????????????????????????????? i know its similar but is it the same???

Re: cruise control

Perfectly the same, just the actual stalk is different, trust me :D

The only difference is wiring colour on the stalk wiring and the shape; the fixings, connectors, internal switching etc are all the same. It'll work perfectly.

Ok then, no piont in getting the Stilo one then. I'll get the alfa one and try and cut neatleay through the colum cover.

Once again, thanks a lot guys, grat help and very interesting info!!(y)

Re: cruise control

I've been to the dealers and asked for prices for the cruise control stlak and it hasn't been easy. In first place they didn't believe it could be done without reseting the body computer and god knows what (serves me right for not asking for a techie and speaking to a parts salesman behind a desk).
After a while of convincing they looked the part up for me, the Stilo one costs 219 euros (bout 140 pounds) so i asked about the alfa 147 one and the one they found costs close to 300 euros..... did they look the correct part up??

The parts they looked at were the part that goes behind the stearing wheel (a kind of oval shaped thing) with the 3 stalks coming out of it (lights, cruise control and wipers). Is this the correct part???' is it not possible to buy the cruise control stalk on it's own without all the rest of the stuff???

Also i asked about the dash light but they didn't have the faintest idea what i was talking about.

The problem with asking the dealers about this stuff is thet they can't really be bothered, no big profit so they just tell u it can't be done and save themselves a lit of trouble...

Can anybody shed some light??? Part numbers??? photos of the parts???

So what does this part include exactly??? I'm sorry for all theese questions but if i go back and can't explain what i want the'll never find it!!!

its the cruise control stalk on its own with out the wiper ad light arm. i dnt know how you would fit it as i have genuine fiat 1's

rrope would be the best person to speak to on fitting as he has done this already.

Re: cruise control

I have it as standard - never use it, lol - although a lot of my driving is on country lanes and backroads - if I ever get an empty bit of motorway, I MAY put it on and have a fiddle

Re: cruise control

Hmm, fiddling with sticks ey Stu, how I could go on with that :D

Sorry everyone, was "a little merry" yesterday so I didn't check the forum!

Right, I've found a picture of the Alfa 147 talk. Stripey gave the right part number. It attaches onto the current stalks in your car, as the Alfa fixing points are the same as the FIAT fixing points. You need to remove the existing screw that it goes over, click the stalk in, then fit a longer screw and one behind.

Got the new shroud yesterday, someone has cut it AFTER it was moulded, so modifying the existing one with a dremel will achieve the same effect.

Going off to nurse my hangover and feel sorry for myself but if anyone needs more help let me know :D

No it won't be that easy for you chromegrey. You'll need to get a 4-core cable wire from the battery box to the steering column, but when you've done that its not that bad.

Version 1 of the guide is up now too, needs work but it's a start :D

what wire should i use? cat 5 cable ok?

Re: cruise control

Hello Everyone

There seems to be some issues with the colour coding of the various wires for the cruise control. Whilst I've made every effort to get it right, I can only go on what I'm told! So, whilst my Stilo is in the workshop, I've spent this morning stripping down my mums 2002 1.6 Dynamic (which is actually pre-wired luckily!) to shed some light on the situation.

Now, Page 3 of the guide (in the "Stilo Guides" section) shows the D4B connector coming from the engine node. Some stilo's have just this connector; these are semi-predisposed. Some (like my 03 and mum's) are fully predisposed, and have another brown connector plugged into this leading to the steering cowl, where the H7 connector is located, to be plugged into the cruise control stalk. On semi-predisposed vehicles, you have to make this section yourself.

Now, wiring diagrams. Everyone seems to be obsessed with colour codes and not pin locations, so I am giving the following AS A GUIDE FOR A 1.6 2002, CHASSIS NUMBER 146979!!! I cannot guarntee anything else. Now, i'm 95% sure FIAT wouldn't have changed it but unfortunately I do not control what they do in Italy!!!

Right, this is for the people who's Stilo is semi-predisposed only! Page 5 of the guide funnily enough is correct, but I'll restate it and try (if it is humanly possible) to make it easier to understand:

- D4B, the big brown connector, is under the fusebox in the battery compartment. There are 4 wires. They are all on the same row, and they start on the second pin in. This is A02. So A02, A03, A04 and A05 will have wires in. There may be other wires but these are the only 4 you need worry about!
Pin A02 is GREEN
Pin A03 is predominantly WHITE with an ORANGE Band
Pin A04 is predominantly YELLOW with an ORANGE Band
Pin A05 is VIOLET
This really doesn't matter; at the end of the day, the wires are there and the configuration doesn't change in any vehicle (that fact is taken from eLearn, the FIAT technical CD!)

- This would now plug into another Brown connector, where all colours are the same, except:
Pin A04 now becomes predominantly ORANGE with a BLACK Band.
Again, this doesn't matter, as if the car is only semi-predisposed, none of this will be here and you'll have to make your own!

- Connector H7, the white cruise control connector, is what is up at the steering column. This plugs into the above mentioned, and also has a +12V feed coming in, as this is what is switched to send the 'ON' pulse to the engine node. So, the configuration for this is as follows (see pic below):
DSC00055.JPG
Pin 1 = GREEN, i.e. this connects to A02
Pin 2 = BLUE, i.e. this is your +12V you need to acquire (and protect with a 7.5A inline fuse; i would recommend a clean +12V, not a piggy-backed one)
Pin 3 IS NOT CONNECTED
Pin 4 = VIOLET, i.e. this connects to A05
Pin 5 = ORANGE / BLACK, i.e. this connects to A04
Pin 6 = WHITE / ORANGE, i.e. this connects to A03
Again, as per my guide!!

All that's left is the colour coding for the actual stalk itself. I'm sure you're tired of me saying this but IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER; as long as you're stalk has the original connector still on (FIAT, ALFA stalks use EXACTLY the same connector), just see which of the 6 pins isn't connected; that'll be Pin 3. Then there will be 2 wires to one side of Pin 3 and 3 to the other side. I'm sure I don't need to tell you the rest . . .

All the colours listed on my guide agree precisely with my 03 1.8 Dynamic and my mum's 02 1.6 Dynamic.

If anyone is still stuck, please PM me, although I don't see how much simpler I can get it! :bang:

erm, no ESP on mines, believe its going to be identical to your mums model, had a look at hers at all? :)

What's your chassis number Scorg? If it's near 146979 you should be ok! My mum's had it sat there, taped up to another wire just like mine had. Which is odd, since her 1.6 doesn't have ESP, and from what I'm told, it's ESP that makes it pre-wired. Maybe all early Stilo's had it wired up?

Re: cruise control

Ok, can't see why it should't be there, although my 03 1.8 has it and rob's (1.8 Stilo)'s doesn't!!
