Hello,

I had a problem a few months ago which was answered perfectly by one of the members on this forum, saving me a trip to the garage and money! The car I own has developed another fault and I wondered whether anyone would be able to help? I own a 2003 manual Fiat Stilo 1.2 L petrol. For a couple of months, the car has occasionally needed bump starting but only occasionally, most of the time it started just fine. Over the last few days however the problem has become much worse and now I only start it by bump starting it. Most of the time I turn the key I only hear a click, no engine noise at all. I had a new battery put in around a month ago and I've had that checked for charge so that isn't the problem. That, to me, would point to a problem with the alternator but no relevant warning light comes on and my father tells me that it most definitely would if there was an alternator problem. Once the car is up and running it is 100% fine including at night with lights on. Any suggestions please?

Agree with Pete, her stilo a month ago, after a new battery and what not, we got a new starter motor, was a clicking noise from engine. Haven't had any problems since. And your father is right, any problems we've had with alternators on either stilo its always came up with a warning light. ??

You can turn the fins of the starter motor to easily see if that was the problem.
I would have to disagree on a warning light for the alternator. I never had any warnings other than when the battery was not charged, then about every warning in the book.
My alternator was shot and no warning...I know as I had to wait a long time to buy the part and to get someone to change it for me.
