Great stilo buddy the paint looks pretty flawless from the pics what model do you have and are you keeping yours as it id in the pics or you adding any mods

I prefer original so only thing I'm changing is the steelies to alloys, its only a 1.4 16v so nothing fast but my first car was a fiat bravo 1.4 16v and personally I'm finding the stilo a quicker and more responsive car.

What made me go for the stilo is basically trying to find that feeling I had with the bravo. I was lucky with the bravo as it was a company car but 7 years later with two kids my money circumstances have greatly reduced so the stilo was the next best thing.

It's a 2004 fiat stilo 1.4 16v active aircon but without aircon lol needs regassed. 93k on the clock a few small supermarket dints but I will be correcting that. A few small problems with suspension you know the knocks and bangs but the garage is going to sort that on wednesday. Only thing that I'm worried about is no history so I'm going to have to treat the car as if its not been serviced in a while so I will do that bit by bit. I very much doubt that the previous owner did not look after it as its got new rear springs, New exhaust. But that's me being picky.

Suprisingly I found it at a scrap yard garage you know the garages that are next to the scrappy. The engine pulls like a train and I'm just shocked someone was going to scrap her. Under the car is clean. All I can think of is the previous owner did not know how to replace the bushes and thought it was too expensive to fix. All in all she is a nice car but needs alittle TLC which I will make sure she gets.

wouldn't have been Backworth would it??? lol

the 1.4 16v engine is actually a really good motor, the superFIRE (16v) motors are great and really rather strong and reliable, very easy to work on too, there is a reason why the basic engine has remained fairly similar for the last 10 years lol just all the pointless stuff like the inlets etc that have changed model to model. Fiat know when they got something right and tend to stick with it and just improve it lol.

I hear a lot of good things about these smaller engines in the stilo's, I may have to consider one for my partner when she passes her test.

Like you say, it all sounds like fairly routine stuff to deal with, just remember, if its your front wishbone bushes that have gone, double check your front bush bolt diameter before ordering.

How did you guess. Yes it was backworth they have been fantastic they are sorting her out on Tuesday. I'm really suprised how great there service is.. I would recommend them to anyone.

Only thing I need to know now is does anyone know the price I should be looking at for timing belt replacement and water pump, I've noticed the fan belt is looking abit tierd so I want to be safe and get it replaced. I would do it myself but I just don't have the know how.

For the power I've always recommended the 1.4 it pulls suprisingly well and is a very responsive engine revs alway up to 7000 and very long gears. It keeps up with my mates 1.6 Honda civic.

The funny thing is my mate disses my fiat but it always keeps up and proves him wrong every time. Fiat was my first car and even though I've bought other cars it is fiat I go back too.

Mmmm I don't know why... But it has to be because the fiat bravo I had, I polished her every 3 days without fail for 18 months off owning, I cleaned the bravo every week without fail and after going with other makes and models on which I treat like skips I came to this my stilo and guess what I'm doing again

Polishing, washing, cleaning without fail its weird I don't know why I do it but its something about fiats that I love.

Geordie born and bread mate, when I had my Black Mk1 Punto 55s a few year back I bought a full Sporting interior from them for like £50 lol, always used them when I was up there and always found them very fairly priced, also I know a couple of people that have bought cars from them and always heard good things lol.

I know what you mean about Fiats, I've had loads of cars over the years and I have owned more fiats than any other makes lol.

the only cars I have washed and polished regular were my Mk1 16v Sporting Punto and my Cinq, I even used to own a Jaguar XJ6 which in the 6months I owned it, I washed it once and it never got polished lol. Once Fiats are in your blood its like crack, they are really hard to kick the addiction, every time I leave and go to another stable, I drive along and admire almost every fiat I see and secretly wish I had another one.

As it says under my Avitar, 100% Fiat Addict

Totally 100% I know what u mean. Don't suppose you know what oil goes in the 1.4 never got a handbook with it and would like to service it very soon. My coolant looks water down so that needs changing only problem there is I've heard bad things if you mix coolants so what is the best way to change it. As seen in photo

If its the same as my 1.2 16v it would be 10w 40. If you put your reg in the europarts web site and it can tell you there for definate on there menu system

on the coolant, take the bottom hose off and drain it all out, re-fit the hose and then fill it with plain water, once full, take the bottom hose off again but leave a hose pipe running into the top, this will flush the system and give you a clean start, leave for 5mins and the turn off hose and leave to drain, re-fit the hose and then re-fill with the coolant of choice and blam, your done.

Red coolant for the 1.4. !

I agree the engine is good for its size. We have a 1.4 stilo 5dr and a 1.4 (90) bravo . The stilo outperforms the bravo. Stilo looks funny but you can get loads of stuff in it including a big dog. Drives all day and turns in nearly 50mpg on long runs.

Fiats they just keep givin, lol my dam breather pipes split in half. Been quoted flipping £68.21 for it.

I said to the fiat garage were the hell do you get your prices from I mean 21p I wonder how many people keep 21p in there pocket don't get me wrong 68 quid nearly gave me a heart attack considering I have her booked for a full timing belt kit inc waterpump and labour for 135 quid but nearly 70 quid for a dam rubber pipe I can get a new clutch fitted for 100.

Sorry for my rant surely I can get it cheaper I've been to my local scrappys and apparently the breather pipe is the first to sell. There must be a massive problem with them considering I've been to 8 scrap yards and looked in 22 fiat stilos. Mostly crash damaged from boy racers poor things just sitting there rotting. So any places cheap I'm getting high from the fumes lol I'm not complaining like ;-) only joking.

Ow and the coolant photo any ideas which coolant I should use which is safe as the last time I changed my coolant in a different car my coolant turned into a thick jelly like substance completely recked my car ( Citroen xsara) mind you best thing for it to be honist a terrible car that was.

Slight problem I don't have a hose too do it but honistly guys thanks for your help.

Yep I have had both bravo 90bhp and now stilo totally agree I used to get 26 city and 37.5 motorway in the bravo but the stilo I'm getting 39 city and 44 motorway massive difference in power. Mind you I did have a faulty fiat bravo from day one still loved it though. My stilo has 93k on it but feels as tight as the bravo was and that had 7 miles on the clock when I got it. Sorry my stilo has 94k now yes you have read that right I've done 1k miles in under 2 weeks. Just shows how much I love the dear thing.

There is no compare between the looks on both cars the bravo is just Italian p**n really beautiful looking car. The stilo I love its looks as it just looks mean as if its the beast on the road. Either way two great looking cars I still say too my self fiat is always ahead of the game when it comes to design and personally I think that's there problem with sales. They bring great looking cars out to early before other companys but people are just too afraid when it comes too different. Look at the ford focus the fiat bravo was discontinued 2013 I think and ford has only just cought up with design. I bet if fiat waited just a year or two and started to sell the bravo again with a slight facelift it would sell better as people have now adjusted to the newer designs.

That's my conclusion anyway, sorry I'm going on again...

Thanks guys for all your wonderful help but still have a few problems

I promise this should be the last off my problems first being when I drive at night I hear constant buzzing noise for my drivers side headlight. I've notice the adjustment to move then up and down does not work.

Second and I know this might sound stupid but its to put my mind at ease. Today after driving I decided to check my coolant I know what people are going to say but again its to put my mind at ease anyway I turned the car off the engine was fully warmed up after driving for 30 mins or so but when I opened the coolant it went from low to high, the coolant has been siting at low since I got it but I'm changing it soon so I've not bothered topping it up. Anyway I noticed a few very small bubbles in the coolant aswell as going to full is this because the coolant was hot, is it normal pressure.

When the cars first started in the mornings it goes down by a inch yes I know its a daft question but my minds playing over time. The car sits at half all day might go slightly above half and below half but usually sits at half most of the time.

Anyway my question is basically is it normal pressure and I'm guessing the small bubbles are because I've opened the expansion tank straght after turning it off. The oil cap and oil is jet black but I'm servicing it soon. My heaters are nice and hot.

It is a stupid question ain't it???? My cars fine really but I'm just making sure.

At least if I ever do sell my car and someone on fiat forums buys it then know I've looked after it.

Again thanks guys for being so understanding and hopefully I can return the favour some day.

The correct oil for the 1.4 16 valve starfire engine is 5W/40. This is in the instruction book for this car. For some reason non Fiat sources often recommend 10W/40.

I was under the impression that all 16v engines were coded SUPERfire not StarFire.

And yes, stupid question lol that's perfectly normal for any car.

I know exactly how you feel: I'm on my 2nd Fiat, and I get teased about it by retards no end, but I have absolutely no desire to own anything else!

No need to apologise! I completely agree! I'm a Punto owner, and despite being launched nearly 16 years ago, the mk2 still looks modern. Likewise, the Grande Punto: launched nearly 10 years ago, I don't think the design has aged at all.

I was mistaken. In fact the 95bhp 1.4 16 valve is known as starjet as far as I know, but someone may know the official designation.

I believe StarJet was its official designation.
