everything expands when it gets hotter.
most cars I know of the coolant will go up a bit when hot compared to cold, the expansion tank is under pressure when hot (not sure 1.4bar maybe).
if you remove the cap when hot, the pressure is released and in effect the coolant now boils and will go up in the tank higher again(and if unlucky all over your hands and face).
the pressure in the tank keeps the boiling point higher so it doesn't boil under normal conditions.
when checking levels stick to a mark or pen mark tank at cold level and hot level to give you an idea of normal hot and cold levels.
I don't know on the petrols but my diesel will travel less than distance from min to max levels on the tank cold to hot.
not sure on the going down an inch when starting
maybe theres an airlock in there somewhere, have you had the heater to hot ? put it to hot to see if it changes(drops).

I think it going down was just in my head to be honist, I've had 7 different cars in two years and every single one was scrapped either due too the gearbox or headgasket. I'm really that unlucky. I don't redline my cars I'm just a typical road user that once in a while gives it a blast on the motorway.

The coolant I think was because I checked it on uneven road. The car drives perfect without any issues so I think its fine.

Thanks anyway but I think I'm on too a winner. It's about blinking time. ;-)

Just the buzzing from the lights I need to sort now don't have a clue what it is so if anyone would be nice enough to point me in the right direction I would be greatful.

The buzzing is the headlamp adjuster in the lamp to stop the buzzing you can either cut one wire going to the adjuster or replace the lamp as it cant be changed seperately .

The headlamp adjuster motor is available separately from Fiat. Part number 9948397 for standard headlamps, or 9949449 Zenon HID headlamps.
