Hello all again,

Sorry, feel I am always here asking questions :p

My car has developed a creaking noise when turning the steering wheel. Is it possible to diagnose and fix this myself? Any ideas what could be causing this creaking sound?

Hopefully not the power steering as I believe this is electric?

It is more noticable at slow speeds or stationery. Noise seems to come from same part too, near front right wheel.

Thanks

Sounds like the cv joint might need a re grease or replacing

No, I wouldn't say there was any ticking or clicking.

It is definitely a creaking sound when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds. Seems the sound comes from the right wheel or that general area.

Probably the top bearing, just above the spring and damper. lots of them creak on punto and derived cars. Should be cheap enough if using a garage who is used to it.

I replaced the top bearing myself when I replaced the struts and springs. You can easily do it yourself with a cheap spring compression tool. Be ver careful! Make sure it doesn't slip and do it slowly or the tool might sklip and the spring decompresses rapidly in your face. I just got new springs, dampers, rubber mounts and bearing and did it all new. Just threw out the old springs and crap.

An option would be to remove the springs in the front and take them to a mechanic to just compress and replace the parts. They could do it cheaper for you. The mechanic close to me wanted to take alot of money for the quick job of pressing the springs so I did it myself. Saved over 150€!
