Hello people!

I need your expertise once again. A few days ago this noise appeared out of nowhere. I just started the car and it was there. I took it to a mechanic and they where not sure on what it is, but they mentioned the piston bearing.

The sound is stronger the more throttle I give it and the lower rpm are. For example: 3rd gear at 1000 rpm. The more throttle I give it, the louder it sounds and fades away as the rpm climb up, disappearing at around 1700-1800 rpm. This happens with all gears and when revving it up in neutral it doesn't sound at all. Only at idle.

I'm sorry for the bad explanation but it's hard to describe the noise.

By the way, power and torque are the same as before, but engine vibrates more than normal.

Hope you have some ideas on this issue because I don't want my Stilo to die!

Thanks!

Sounds like bottom pulley to me, usually go around70,000-80,000 mile mark. common on the jtd.

Easy job to replace.

Is there an easy way to check? Like wiggle the pulley or something?

Thanks for your replies!

So I check the pulley, tried to move it but nothing special happened, I guess because it's under tension. But the rubber doesn't look very good.

What do you think???

Thanks!

The rubber has worn so badly that the pulley is no longer central to the hub. Get the pulley replaced ASAP. I would advise not starting the engine until it's been replaced.

To replace the pulley, you only need to remove the 4 RIBE bolts, not the central 19mm bolt. The pulley has been modified and you will need 4 shorter RIBE bolts to go with the new one.

get it replaced asap, I just had mine fail and the outer ring will come off and snap your Aux belt, its really easy to replace, 4 Ribe bolts and its off then use a 15mm spanner to hold the tensioner in its loosest position then refit the belt, took me about 15mins to do. as Davren has said, DONT run the engine if you can as you can do untold amounts of damage to other things as the crank is out of balance so will be causing extra strain on parts with in the engine.

Wow! That's good to know, the mechanic was like... yeah just drive normally and bring the car next week and we'll see what's going on there... good service as always.

But the part has been ordered already so just waiting now.

Thank you guys for the help!
