The time has come to say good by to my trusty Stilo. 2003 was a good year, and I've never had any nightmare years since with the car.

Gonna miss the trusty filly. But she's off to a young local lass, I hope she has many good years as I decided to sell while the car was still good.

My plan to run the car until the wheels fell off just didn't work out that way. 100k miles and nearly 13 years and she still goes well.

So what next? A Renault.... Well I was supposed to pick it up today but 2 burst tyres means I don't get it until Tuesday now. Here is hoping this isn't a bad omen.

Renault - arghh!! I take it reliability isnt a big thing for you :p

sad to see another old hat go... i changed her stilo for a peugeot 407sw and have regretted it ever since. The costs with the french motors maintenance wise has shocked me. over a grand for a clutch on the 407 where the stilo (both diesels) was only 350. 300 notes to change a wheel bearing, 250 for swivel joints all in the last few months on a car thats only done 67k.
I was chewing over getting rid of my oil burner, but i cannot face it yet....
but when i change it will now be most likely a ford or another fiat.... na probably a ford.

I have just come back to Fiat after a short run in a Scenic, worst car ever!!! oh and Renault engines have issues with Dephaser pullies which are a £700 repair. this is on all their engines from 2001 onwards and its all the engines including the Deisels.

Good Luck, I hope you have up to date breakdown recovery.

I had same problem on my scenic weird crunching noise when it started .. Then the ecu died so i scrapped it lol

One thing is for sure: Fiat make very good engines, unlike say VW. How can VW claim any sort of prowess when they have to ditch a cam chain in favour of a belt well into a production run? - this must be unprecedented.

oh well, it looks like im off as well, my old oil burner will be probally going on the market in the next couple of days (just after i spent over £500 getting it ship shape again).
Im looking, and will probably make an offer on an 09 ford smax 1.8tdci zetec, need the room for our growing family, stilo has served very well with 3 kids (2 twins) and she has taken us everywhere - that boot on the mw has swallowed everything.
I now cannot handle 3 kids arguing in the back on long distances so need the 7 seater.
I am going to miss her but we all need to move on.

sorry to see people leave, but on the plus side if you love your cars its always fun getting to know a new model.

I know lots of people with Renaults - no issues at all (except the Scenic, they are BAD). I LOVE the MK3 Megane onwards, gorgeous car. My mate has one and it regularly returns 70MPG plus, which is crazy. Nice bit of poke from that little diesel engine but yeah, if something breaks its going to hurt but doesn't it always on any car other than your cardboard Fiesta...!!

As for the SMAX, I know a couple of people with them, they love them, zero issues even with ones they bought used. Not bad for a Ford!

good luck chaps!

The only comment on the S-max is the fact a police officer told me they prefer the galaxy for better handling characteristics but I doubt you'll be pushing it hard enough to notice any difference, especially with the little ones on board. :D

I test drove both the smax and the galaxy and the smax was much sharper, and not boat / van like in the slightest.

Anyways guys, i passed on the 09 but bought an 56 plate in far far better condition - 1 owner, 41,000 miles and FSH, the car is immaculate and top of the range titanium model.
I picked her up yesterday - she is a lovely drive - blooming quick as well.:worship:

My stilo is on my drive way ready to be cleared out and prepped for sale, it was a very sad last drive, ive been a owner of a stilo since 2003 - this car since 2009. she really has been a valuable member of the family....
i will put her in the classifieds on here - hopefully she will find a new home quickly.

Its been fantastic on this forum, ive had tonnes of help and have hopefully given back just as much. Ive made some good friends on here and am going to miss being in the fiat club.

We had renault espace after stilo £1300 later and we still fighting to get it through mot . And yes we have had to have a de phaser pully lol never again would I buy a renault

ok guys just watched my old gal drive off my drive with a new owner, quite sad really but we have to move on.
I put the car on autotrader and was surprised how quick she sold.
She has been round the block more than a few times, lots of work done recently but still shines like a gem and drives very nice.
I put her up on monday evening, and she was sold by midday tues.
Ive since had call after call about her, it just shows that the cars are wanted even if they were met with warm / poor professional reviews - owner reviews are a different ball game though.
If your planning to sell don't undercut yourself especially the diesel owners, i got more than i actually wanted and am very happy - likewise the new owner thinks he also got a good deal and is also very happy - everyone is happy.

2003-2015
farewell my old friends

Roy, if you still have any spares lying around for the old five door, I'll take them off your hands! Whatever became of the old ford you had? was it a mk2 cortina?

Hi mate, just popped in and saw your reply.
I still have the 1600e in the garage, ready for restoration - having kids put that on the back burner - but how much they are fetching now i wont be letting her go as she is only 1 of 2 left on her age.
Im 99% sure that all my 1.6 spares have gone, other than the timing kit. James on here had a load of my stuff even though ive not heard from him in a long while.
I will be clearing out my garage to get my tina out soon if i find anything it has your name on it.
