I am new to the forum so Hallo to everyone , I have a Stilo 1.6 multi it uses large amounts of oil , no oil leaks and no blue smoke but some white smoke on start up, so I take it the valve stem oil seals need replacing. Can the seals be changed with out taking the head off , If so do I need a special tool to remove the valve springs like you use on the old Fords

before you run off in the wrong direction, get under the car and look at the back of the engine, see if there is oil present, then look for a black plastic sensor this cables attached on the back of the engine, this is the oil sensor, they have a habit of splitting on the 1.6 and you will dump tonnes of oil though this.

Thanks Roy I will have a good look not seen any oil on the floor though and the amount of oil it is losing is a lot , only got the car a month ago and serviced it when I got it and had to refill the engine again as the oil was not showing on the dipstick and there was a warning on the dash

Hi, i wanted to ask, i also saw some dry oil stains on the exhaust pipe / axle at the back of the engine, on my 1.6. I saw this while i was changing the thermostat.
I didn't know that there was an oil sensor until i read your post :) What oil sensor is it? Oil pressure sensor?
