Morning All,

Wonder if anyone can help me here.

I have a Stilo 1.2 16v active - 2003.

I have two keys, none of the keys will open the doors when using the door lock on the drivers door and this is worrying me.

The key with the remote buttons on it can open the doors with the button and start the car.

My spare key (with no buttons) will not start the car.

Im worried incase the battery run's out in the working key as I will not be able to unlock the car (without the buttons working)...

I want to replace the battery as the range I can unlock the car from is getting less and less - meaning the battery is probably running out.

Can I replace this without the need to re-program it?
I know that some cars need reprogramming once you take out the battery in the key and that can cost a fortune.

Also, how can I get my key to work in the door lock, it turns but does nothing.

Also, the spare key cannot start the car.

In fairness i need to know...

Can i change battery in key very easy without it looses its memory
What could cause the door locks not to open when using the key in the lock

And can I get my spare key (with no buttons) repogrammed to start the car.

Any help appreciated, i dread to wake up one morning and not be able to get in the car :(

Kind regards

Dan

Yes you can change the battery in the remote without having to reprogram it afterwards. If the door lock turns but doesn't unlock. The connecting rod has probably become detached or broken off. So will either just need clipping back in or at worst the arm on the back of the lock mechanism replacing.
If the spare key isn't starting the car it will need a new immobiliser chip programming. A good auto locksmith can do this for you for far less than the dealer.

Thanks for that info.

I rang a fiat dealer and the service technician advised that the door lock issue was a common issue with the Stilo's.

He said there is a little module behind the barrel that engages the locking actuator and when the lock is not used over long periods of time the module will seize up and not engage, the lock turns freely and does nothing, he advised to keep putting WD40 in the lock and on the key and after repeating for about a week it should free up and start to engage and work...

im onto day 2 of applying degreasing spray and no change yet.

hopefully i can repair it without the need of changing the whole lock...

ill post an update next week.

thanks for the response.
