Hi All

My MOT just failed on worn rear and front arm bushes.

- I've noticed my car's steering has felt a little odd at recent, not always feel like its straight but it is sometimes it pulls as well on accelerating and breaking.

Could this be because of the arms?

What do worn bushes cause?

and how much should I expect to replace both bushes?

James

I have the same issue, well not failed MOT but I do have a failed bush on the front left, what it causes is the wheel to move forward and back which will cause the pulling under accel/breaking, yes get them replaced, you can replace just the bushes but its easier to replace the full wishbone but its abit more expensive in parts but less time consuming.

do you know the bush diameter for the 1.9 by any chance?

There seems to be 2

Depending on the car's build date, there are 3 types of front wishbone fitted to the Stilo. Cast iron with 12mm front bush, cast iron with 14mm bush and welded pressed steel with 14mm bush.

To check whether you have the latest welded pressed steel type.... the ball joint on both 12mm and 14mm cast iron wishbones is not replaceable, whereas the welded pressed steel wishbones have a replaceable ball joint held in by 3 rivets, as in the second picture below.

theres a few references to the change over 12mm to 14.5mm here
date related change?

also a link in there to the actual arms I bought and fitted to my jtd150
expensive for a pair.
I think the later pressed steel were cheaper but not sure if compatable.
you can pm your chassis number and I can look up on a 2014 eper for your wishbone part numbers.
also I think the mot guy may be too strict , my guy kept showing me the wear with a pry bar and not failing but advising as not directly a safety issue(wear was worse on kerb side so easy to compare)
of course your wear could be worse ?
what year and mileage are you ? for the rear bushes to be gone also.

Yep mine was 14mm - new wishbone and my gosh it handles so much better
