It's almost like someone has fitted an incorrect item as mine is smooth right across with no ribs at all. Oh well Fri it's parts time and there will be lots to fit. Might do the timing belt while I'm on with it lol.

Are you sure your pulley is smooth, or is it full of old belt that needs removing?
It is very unlikely that a pulley is worn smooth, by a rubber belt, neither could it have the wrong one fitted as no-one will manufacture a smooth pulley, as there's no purpose for one.

Your pic of the belt appears to have the ribs away from the pulley. They should be towards the pulley. Some installations use both sides of the belt to drive things, and can be ribbed both sides, but the video (not sure why it was posted) does not appear to show anything needing driving on the outer face of the belt. So has the belt been fitted inside-out, or has it turned itself around in use? This is possible if one of the driven components, guide wheels or tensioners is seizing, or is pulleys are misaligned.

You say the original belt snapped. How do you know? Did you pick it up, or did it go awol? It might have popped off, like this one!

Alternator pulley is available separately. Check Ebay.

It could be that the outer ring with the grooves has fractured and fallen off. The picture only shows lines of polish marks from the v belt

this was my thought but face is smooth, there is no signs of bits being fractured off, and yes the lines are polished in from the belt, I ran my nail across the face of the pulley and it is 100% metal and there are no imperfections across it where ribs should be. its like it has been made this way.

either way, its not right and when I get paid at the end of the week I am buying a new one and that should be the end of the issue. I just don't understand why its like this.

If you buy a new crankshaft pulley, the design of it has changed. You may also need to buy 4 shorter bolts to fit it with.

Cheers, I will make sure the one I buy has 4 bolts to match it.

How hard is a timing belt on one of these??? I might do it while i'm on with it just to future proof it.

Timing belt is not difficult on jtd is more a time consuming job more so if you do the water pump at the same time which is very advisable as it is driven by the timing belt, so coolant change also be required at same time and bleeding the coolant system when completed, the bolts for the water pump can be awkward as they have loctite on them did mine in a day not rushing the job with new water pump and coolant change, some info in the guides section ,link below and more details can be found from a google.
