i have a 2003 jtd 115 with a problem there is a pronounced vibration thought the car more so when cold and all thought the engine feels smooth when revved it doesn't sound smooth iv done the clutch and duel mass flywheel and the engine mount but still the same the vibration must be from the engine as iv had to replace the crankshaft vibration pulley 3 times in 40k as it keeps breaking up

so I'm running out of things it could be

is it somehow possible the timing is a tooth out ?

Greetings!

You did everything already.

If you have the same fuel filter for a long time try replacing it.

Also add 200ml of 2 stroke oil in every full diesel tank.

Cheers

Can anyone back this up that its actually good for the engine as I saw an ad the other day for a 405 Dturbo that the owner had been told to put 2 stroke oil in the tank and had been doing for a couple of years and now its smoking badly and its had a new turbo and still smoking, the garage selling it were saying they thought it was the engine seals but I don't know diesels well enough to comment.

I use it along with other stuff, been testing stuff for a few years on my jtdm
https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/358197-2-stroke.html
I cant remember anyone having negative results in a jtd here or alfaforum ?
i think a good injector cleaner would be good for it if its never had any.
and i have used stuff from petrol stations eg redex and others, but they just arnt as strong as dedicated cleaners.
i would recommend reading this and base your choice on something that has high PEA content(they don't seem to sell anything without it)

heres a thread on bg244
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-159-brera-and-946-spider/308569-bg244-diesel-results.html
i usually use the bg244 but this time have tried the AR 6400-CR but only just received it and have other plans so wont go in for a while(picked up on e--y with a free AR6200 20ML sample same price)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Archoil-A...620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ed1650e8c
you could try something like this for a tank, clean injectors and fuel modifier (although the main site says it already has some in it so maybe save the 20ml bottle for a later test)
this would give a very good base line, then test just a cheap 2 stroke for a tank then back to your regular fuel with nothing.
as fuel price has dropped so much lately , it doesn't cost much more than a full tank did cost.
i don't work there , but this is where i bought my stuff from and seems to be the main dealer maybe for archoil ?
this last tank i wanted a clear out as my additives were building up a bit so filled with just shell v power diesel and i cant wait to go back to my mix.
just to be fair a lot of users on alfa forum have good results with
diesel rhino

you pays your money and takes your chance. best thing is try something and keep a track of mpgs noise starts etc, then try something else.
what suits others engines may not suit yours.
in this cold weather a cetane booster is good idea, or at least contained in your additive.
that ar6400 cr looks like it could be split over 2 tanks if you wanted which would probably do a better job if you havnt got some sort of blockage which would require stronger ratio(real smokey starts and horrible knocking might suggest a blocked nozzle, poor spray pattern)
Treatment ratio is 1:100 > 1:200. A single 430ml bottle will treat between 43 and 86 litres of fuel.
sorry for the long post , best to put as much info , let others read and decide themselves.

TBH I would not use supermarket fuel at all, Tesco, Asda and all of them.
Since I filled up 3 times with diesel from my work my EGR has clogged up and needs another clean but I will block it off this time.
As with all the links with putting 2 stroke oil in your tank, it was interesting reading and I would consider using it for supermarket diesel.
I do think however an occasional fillup with Shell V power is a good option.
Veg oil is not common but MPG is more and it does tend to clog up the fuel filter so that has to be changed frequently.

I love my diesel Stilo 1.9JTD MW but some diesels are so full of crap that sometimes you got to put a cleaner through.

If the engine is regularly serviced there is no reason why it should not last your lifetime.
However the Stilo has all sorts of BC niggles, bushes are a nightmare to change but it is a great car all around.
:)

to the original poster also
have you got any software to check injector correction (I think your car will have it )
or ask around if anyone local has you can connect to. this may show something amis, try cleaning the plugs to injectors and as above run a good dose of strong injector cleaner, a bad injector can give a running issue like a lumpy misfire ie one cylinder down. I guess this might kill your pulley in short time.
where are you based ? someone with fes/mes nearby
otherwise think about a cheap lead and using the free version download.
search on leads first im sure some have had issues ?

Just read and like it so much I have to share to anyone interested:

Why car manufacturers do not recommend 2-stroke oil?

You may all know that Mercedes Benz have conducted in 2007 a long distance reliability test with a number of Mercedes E-Class 320 cdi from Paris to Beijing. Due to the fact that the diesel quality in East European Countries, Russia and China does not meet the DIN requirements, and Mercedes did not want to take the risk of their engines to flopp due to lousy fuel, the total tour has been accompanied by diesel tanks to re-fuel the E-Class cdi's. Selected members of the Mercedes clientele could apply to participate in selected parts of this test-tour, and advocats and notaries had to certify the correctness of this long term reliability test.
Although Mercedes does not like it published or made public, it is a fact that the diesel-fuel used for this test did contain 2-stroke oil to grease the high pressure pump components and to keep the engines clean during this marathon.
Why our car manufacturers do not officially allow the homoeophatic addition of 2-stroke oil to the diesel fuel has many reasons, mostly of legal nature. Besides this, which car manufacturer has any interest in excessive reliability of their engines? Their repair shops will have great problems.
Meanwhile the "2-stroke-oil to diesel" issue has attracted the interest of a number of Universities in Germany, as this 2-stroke oil has shown to have amazing poperties if added in a small dosis to diesel fuel (1:200), especially the positive impact on air pollution, reduced fuel consumption and improved long term reliability of the diesel engine. The pro and con discussions will go on for a while. But as soon as an accademic report has been published by one of our Universities, this will change very fast.
By the way: all car manufacturers reject the addition of any fuel "additive" in their cars, and warn that guarantee MAY be affected. Nobody says, that guarantee WILL be rejected. 2-stroke oil in its properties is not an additive, as you add oil to oil if you "dope" you fuel with a dosis of 2-stroke oil. The dosis of 2-stroke oil in your diesel-fuel is very difficult to analyse, as every (chemical) analysis has the main function to identify substances which are harmful. But 2-stroke oil has proven not to be harmful at all, on the contrary!
Personally, I use 2-stroke oil now for many years in all of my diesel cars (my present business car is a Mercedes 320 cdi DPF Automatic). And I never had any problems whatsoever.

Hi...
Check the excessive radial play in driveshafts (inner joints) especially on the longer driveshaft.
This was the cause for the great vibrations on my jtd Stilo...

Maybe would be a good idea to go over the mechanic for the diesel injection system to check the injectors and high pressure pump...
I am planning to do that soon too because I have quite shaky engine in idle. Before that I am planing to replace the engine/gearbox mount, the one below the battery.

checked timing that seems ok so I'm thinking injector(s) so I'm planning of getting a 2nd hand set and getting them recontitioned then fitting them

does anyone know if them come out easily
