Okay first off hello and sorry for this being my first post and it`s a help me post :bang:

Okay we have an 04 fiat Stilo petrol 1.4 5 door with 72k on the clock. Over the past 8 month we have started to have a few electrical inconveniences . It started with a erratic temperature gauge which developed a mind of its own. Unfortunatly it past its craziness on to the fuel gauge as it was not long before they were both showing incorrect readings or nothing at all. This was a pain but the trip computer and the low fuel light still worked and that meant it was an irritant more so than an actual problem that need attention(n). The rest of the dash is fine.

So far i have cleaned the earths on the passenger wing and the firewall and checked the ones on the battery terminals, all seem good only 0.01 of a volt out. can`t see it being a fuse otherwise the rest of the dash would be dead or am i wrong ? its worth noting that the temp gauge will work from time to time but the petrol gauge never moves.

Then our new problem which really is a problem struck, we lost the heater fan, this is a problem that needs attention as it`s bloody cold at the moment :bang:. I have located the fuse for the Fan which I think is FO8 in the engine fuse box and this looks fine (think that is the only fuse).I have read on here that it could be the regulator switch bit this normally fails in stages , ours just stopped working this is inclusive of setting four. I have also read the fan motor can fail which can blow the fuse but our fuse is fine. I think I have read that the fan speed switch can also fail which it could be I guess. is there anyway of testing first though :)

Once again thank you for any help and I will follow up this thread if we manage to fix it so that it can fully help others in the future (y)

Okay let's try this from a different angle,

What's the location of the dash earth ? As this is more than likely my issue for the gauges I would have thought.

What is the heater fan fuse number is there just on fuse or more ? Is its locationn in the engine bay or cabin ?

The instrument panel earth connection is supplied from the body computer.

The heater fan is supplied by fuse F08 and relay T08 in the engine compartment fuse box.

.

Thank you, I presume the body computer is located next to the in car fuse box ? does it have a dedicated earthing point or is there more than one ?

Also I presume I can get the replacement relay from Halfords ?

The Body Computer is the grey box attached to the back of the dashboard fuse box. There are several earth connections to the BC. The 2 relevant to the instrument panel are connected to pins 1 and 5 of earthing connector C15B. This connector should be attached to the driver's side right kick panel behind the carpet. It will be high up along with 3 other earthing connectors, to the right of the accelerator pedal pivot. C15B should look like the connector in the diagram below.

A 30amp mini relay is probably available from Halfords, however for test purposes, you could temporarily substitute it for relay T06 (low speed engine cooling fan) which is also a 30amp relay.

Also check fuse F31 in the dashboard fuse box. It supplies an ignition switched 12v supply to the operating coil of relay T08.

Cool thank you for the info on the earthing points i I will go and check these now :).

What would be the recommendation for cleaning the contacts ? or will it more than likely be where it mounts to the chassis that will need cleaning ?

On the heater fan issue I can confirm that the relay is clicking and forming a circuit as a relay should so unfortunately its not an easy fix. From this point i located the blue and brown wire that connects to the back of the fan housing and i look to have power here also, this is really getting depressing as it looks like its the fan thats gone. Really don`t think they could have put it in a worse location :bang: . Is there any fan removal guides on here :worship: ?

Hi
I have just replaced my heater fan in my fiat stilo dynamic 2004 look for my posts in the stilo section under user name tuckermoto

took me 1/2 hour....to do also there is two F31 fuses in the fuse box in the car........one bottom left and one top left....the top left is to bring the relay coil in....check that before you attempt removal of the heater unit they are marked in the fuse identifiaction on the cover of the fuse box

Brilliant thank, your guide makes it sound very easy will give it a go soon :) .

I've never had to access mine, but I believe the connector is a short circuit coupling that would be bolted to the body. Very unlikely to have a problem there unless your windscreen, or sunroof (if fitted) drain tube is leaking

also there is two F31 fuses in the fuse box in the car........one bottom left and one top left....the top left is to bring the relay coil in

Top left is fuse F31 for the relay coil, bottom left is Fuse F13 for the left headlight dipped beam.

Okay the only two earths I can see are the following two . I think it's the white connection although this is not looking like the same plug as in your description

The white connector is a normal male/female wiring connector. Wires go in one side of it and out the other.

The black connector is a short circuit coupling. All the wires going into it are connected together (short circuit) and the other side of the connector is bolted to the body. You can just see the end of the welded stud the other side of it. There should be 2 other short circuit couplings (including the one in my diagram above) in roughly the same area.

Well everything has now gone wrong lol. The list of new faults after putting it back together.

Wipers not working
left-hand indicator only works when head lights are off
low brake fluid warning on dash

Think that's it :-(

Also could not see any other connection that looked like the one you mentioned although it has to be there I guess. Will have to take a fresh look again As I have now got to take it apart again To sort this new issue :-( .

Just found another diagram in eLEARN that shows C15B close to the brake/clutch fluid resevoir. I've never seen any connectors in that area on my Stilo.

eLEARN still describes it as the driver's side facia earth though.

Okay thank you, can't see any other connectors in the drivers wheel well although i remember cleaning the earth near the brake reservoir.

While we are at it any ideas on the wipers ? they worked fine after the car was but back together and then after 5mins they just stopped working in the middle of the windscreen. At the same time we had a low brake fluid warning that will not go away.

The car is being traded in next weekend for a new car but unless we can get the wipers sorted we won't be able to drive the bloody thing to the dealership if it's raining :bang:

Well sorted the wiper, headlight and brake fluid warning thank god. For reference it's was the earthing plug next to the battery that I had not clicked back together after cleaning the pins :) . Still not got the fuel gauge / temp gauge & heater fan working but that's fine we only have to wait till next Sunday and our little i10 turns up with a 5 year warranty :). Once again thank you for all your help keep up the good work :)
