Hello Fiat Friends!

Right 1st of all I've been searching for this problem on the forums for the past hour and couldn't find anything similar to my problem (also I have no idea what the little computer thingy on the dash clocks is called so that didn't help much)

Well pretty much 1 week ago my car battery was killed with all the bad weather witch in all fairness I didn't mind to much as the car still had its original battery in from 2002 when the car was made so it's lasted an amazing amount of time really,

So anyways I had a new battery fitted at a garage (bosh battery with 4yr warranty) and then a few test like alternator input to the batter ect and diagnostic test just for peace of mind (no problems just wanted peace of mind as when the old battery went the computer said everything was failing, it was all fine though)

Right anyway, new battery fitted ever since when I lock my car the little computer thingy didn't turn off (go duel) like it used too but now it won't it just sits there faintly flashing I can't show the flashing as I can't upload videos but I will upload a photo or two to try and explain better

But the garage did notice this and they said it's only a small drain on the battery and if the car is used on a day to day bases it'll never go flat but they said its one of two things they said it'll either be the dashboard needs replacing or it could need a new fuse box witch niether are cheep so he said I might aswell leave it instead of spending a fortune on fixing it but it kind does my head in as I like everything to be perfect (I have problems I swear everything has to be perfect to me) but anyways could it just be a lose connection or something?

Also while I'm at it random question but would it be possible to change all the dashboard (radio, clocks, heat controls, even the computer thingy) and door (mirror mover, windows up and down, lock unlock) LEDs from Orange to another colour such as blue? I don't mind it how it is but its my car I want it to be different from standard,

Thank you for taking your time to read my post it means a lot! If you can help me then I really do appreciate it! As I'm still new to the fiat forums ?

Hi Jay he computer thingy is your cars instrument cluster. I had problems with my battery over Christmas, once I had recharged my battery the cluster did random things and then died. I had to get my instrument cluster repaired, it could be that yours has also started failing. See the following thread https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/359202-comprehensive-dashboard-failure.html

Hello thanks for that! And taking your time to read my post! Means a lot!

Anyways wouldn't it be cheeper to buy a 2nd hand dashboard with clocks and cluster then it would be to repair it? As £120-£150 is a bit steep when I could get a dashboard for around £50?

Should you just replace the dash you would have to look at cost of correcting mileage ,multiscan registerd version can correct mileage but only by increase not decrease if remember rightly, but the software does allow for proxy alignment which would learn the replacement dash to cars computer system, this can be done also by a dealer though all of which will cost similar to having original fitted dash repair.

So even if you found another dash with similar mileage, you will find you would have the mileage flashing on the replacement dash, until you had a proxy alignment done, this is done by plugging in diagnostic equipment and the car computer learning any new electronic items fitted obviously adding more cost to putting in a dash from another car plus any extra cost for mileage correction if needed.

Okay cheers for that I thought it might of been a cheeper option but both seeming the same :( will the car still run even if the cluster goes?

Thank you for all you help anyways! Means a lot!

I'm currently in the process of searching for another job as I'm skint so aslong as the car will run even if the dash don't work that isn't a problem as I'd need my car to locate :) but asoon as the money starts coming in ill make sure I get it fixed :) thank you again!

I went for a set of clocks out the scrap yard first (£25) they were fine for a month or so then went the same way so sent my original ones away for repair. You don't need to get the mileage changed if higher. Who cares on an old car? The miles flash constant though so this may annoy you after a while. Its a gamble, "buy cheap buy twice" as they say.

I think I will just get them repaired when I have the spare money how much did it cost you to have them repaired? By the way don't know if this helps but when took my dash out earlier I noticed one of the screws was missing? So looks like someone's been in there before? Also when it's warm out it don't flash? But when it's cold it does? The colder it is the more it seems to do it? Only recently noticed?

Additional information
My car has only had 1 lady owner from new and when I got it only 54,000 on the clock now it's on 58,000 nearly 59,000
Just thought I'd mention this as it might help?

When you don't mind sending your cluster to the Netherlands i can repair it for a very competitive price - in most cases the cluster will be repaired + resend on the day of arrival, average shipping time NL to UK 3-4 working days.
Further info by PM please because of forum rules.....

Hi Gurt, what do you class as a competative pricse ? Surly the cost of postage to and from the Netherlands is going to be expensive is't it ?

i'm not allowed to mention a repair price because of forum rules - shipping cost NL to UK are 13 euro (aprox. 10 pound ?) - i guess UK to NL will be around the same price ?
the costs of the repair itself will be roughly half the price quoted by repair companies in UK....
including the shipping costs it's still competative...

I'll have to let you know as I'm skint atm but don't think I could be without my car for that long to be honest as I obviously can't drive it without any clocks lol can the main fiat dealers fix it there and then? Or is it always a waiting game? Thanks

£650? Could buy a hole Stilo with that for spears lol

Do garages repair them? Like electricity specialist garages? As I have one quite local to where I live?

Cheers for helping people!

unless a garage or auto electrican specialises in dash/cluster repairs they will just send it off for repair and add an extra premium to the bill for you to pay, which in that sort of event would be cheaper for you to post off the dash yourself ,,if you would rather get it fixed by a local place your best doing a google search and see if there is a repair service near to where you live,

I will do some research on Google and let you guys know how it goes while I'm at it do you have to take the steering wheel off to take the dash out?

you can drive your car without the instrument cluster that's no problem but i don't know what happens when you are checked at a traffic control....

you can remove your instrument cluster without any removal of steering column parts - just fully pull your column out and downward , you then can remove your cluster without problems (it's a bit fiddly but when you think twice before any action it can be a 2 minutes job....
lift the flexible cover under the cluster at the front side to get access to the lower screws.

Thank you guys!

I did my research and come across a company called cartronix I was wounding has anyone used these before?

There link is
www.cartronix.co.uk

And they only charge £120

But I'd like some reviews if anyone's ever used these before?
