Hi all,

can anyone advise on the legal minimum thickness for rear discs on Stilo jtd 1.9 sporting ?

My Silo had mot August, no mention of excessive wear then.
Car just been serviced by different garage ( Halfords ) who want £200 to fit new, stating discs down to 7.1 mm / pads 3mm

Can get parts for £60 ish , Pagid brand - anyone used this brand ?

Money tight at moment, so probably have to do what I did 30 years ago ; get on my back and fit myself !!!!

Minimum thickness for the rear discs is 9mm (10mm when new).
I would think about replacing them at under 8mm.
The rear discs are really cheap; for under 50€ i can find a pair made by Bosch or Brembo or ATE.
An you can easily replace them in under 1 hour; for another 25€ you can replace the rear pads as well ( Textar, Bosch, Brembo, Ferodo ..etc)... i mean you are still doing the work.

Do some more shopping around

Thanks Aurick,

Been a few years since I got my hands dirty !
Will I need any `special` tools to do job ?

You can do it without special tools... the only thing you need to know is that the rear calipers need to be pushed in and rotated at the same time. The rotation is be different for each side!!!!
-on the right rear brake caliper tightening it in a clockwise direction;
-on the left rear brake caliper tightening it in an anti-clockwise direction.

Just a tip. If the discs look as though they are tight on the hub just wack them from the inside with a dead blow hammer (Thor leather face number 2 will do) and they will come off easily.

Thanks guys,
been reading other post about rear disc caliper wind back tool from Fiat, which turns and pushes caliper at same time - anyone got a second hand one they want to sell ?

Have a look on eurocarparts.com website, I got front/rear discs and pads at a very good price, and very fast delivery, or you can collect from there branches near to you
