Started my 1.8 Dynamic this morning and everything was fine. Got about a mile down the road and lots of beeping and the car was telling me of a ASR and ESP failure. I turned the engine off then back on when I had got to work and this didn't flash up again.

The car is due for it's service in the next few weeks I was just wondering if anyone has had this happeen to them and how much I am looking at to get it fixed.

Cheers

Graham

not sure about the brake light thing. My misses is taking the car out in a bit so I'll let you know if it happens again.

Misses just returned my stilo and nothing no beeps or lights. Guess it was just a gremlin somewhere. Service and MOT on Tuesday so I'll get them to check it out just incase.

Had the same problem on my 02 1.6, took the car to several main dealers and eventualy had all the wheel bearings replaced, problem solved.

Ditto. Have them check the brake pedal switch... can't see how the wheel bearings have anything to do with the brake system... I think the dealer might have taken you for a ride.

i had the yellow spanner once wen i started the car i turned it off then back on and no spanner must of been a one off :S

Then about a week ago i got a car sercuity failure dun the same thing turn off then back on and it was fine......werid. That the only problems ave had if u can call them that :S

Stilo has active sensors for ABS which allows the ABS system to control brake pressure at very low speeds (EBD), this is something that the old passive sensors couldnt do. The new sensors work by detecting magnetic fields produced when the wheel turns. The sensor runs very close to the wheel bearings, these have a ring mounted on the bearing shield made up of approx 120 opposed magnets. It is this very fine signal which is used in EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution). This causes different problems for diagnosis. Because reluctor rings on older systems produce a course analogue signal it is very obvious if a ring is damaged as the relative drop in speed is much greater than the fine digital signal produced by active sensors. For this reason if a ring is faulty on a digital system it may work perfectly well 99% of the time. Examiner is used for diagnosis to monitor all the wheel speed signals together to see if one signal changes when driving intermittently or is reading a lower speed than the others.

Regardless of this some ABS units on earlier stilos had a software problem and new ABS units will now eliminate ABS lights on at start up.

Very interesting... thanks for the info. (y)
In typical Stilo fashion, replacing the wheel bearings DOES have an affect on the brake system. (y)
